CLEARWATER, Fla. – Junior left-hander Michael Muglia threw a complete game six-hitter in a 4-2 win in the opener, and the offense produced 11 hits, eight walks and nine stolen bases in a 9-4 win in the nightcap as East Stroudsburg University swept a doubleheader from Minnesota-Crookston on Sunday at Jack Russell Stadium.

ESU improved to 11-4 on the season and 4-2 on its trip to Florida heading into an off day on Monday. The Warriors opened the trip with wins over Oakland City (Ind.) and Upper Iowa on Friday before falling to Upper Iowa and Cedarville (Ohio) on Saturday.

They conclude their eight-game trip on Tuesday, taking on regional opponent Alderson-Broaddus at 11 a.m. before traveling from Clearwater to No. 1-ranked Tampa for a 6 p.m. start to close the week.

Muglia, who didn't allow a run in 14.2 innings last season, struck out seven, walked one and only allowed one earned run in his first appearance of the season for the Warriors. He gave up his first run since April 19, 2010, when he was the starter in a 22-1 win at Chestnut Hill.

Junior 1B Brian Ernst led off the bottom of the second with his first home run of the season, and the Warriors added three more runs in the fourth after Minnesota-Crookston (4-5) scratched out a run but left three on base in the top of the inning.

Freshman 3B Robert Patete had the go-ahead two-run single after redshirt senior 3B Jason Kelmer and sophomore OF Chris Knott were both hit by pitches and moved up on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore C Nico Delerme. Patete moved up on a single by senior 2B Ryan Guarino and came around to score on an RBI groundout by junior OF Zac Menendez.

Muglia struck out the side around a two-out single in the fifth and pitched around a single and hit batter, both with two outs, with another strikeout in the sixth. In the seventh, an error and a double gave Minnesota-Crookston runners on second and third with one out in a 4-2 game, but a sacrifice fly turned into the final out of the game when Knott cut down the trailing runner at third base.

In game two, the Warriors scored in six of the seven innings and got multi-hit games from Guarino (3-for-3, walk, RBI, run), senior SS Evan Gallagher (2-for-4, RBI, run) and Knott (2-for-4, 2 runs).

Menendez was 1-for-2 with three walks, three stolen bases, three RBI and two runs in the leadoff spot and ESU's nine stolen bases were the most since compiling 10 in a 10-0 win over USP last March.

Freshman Jake Traub made his first career start and went 4.2 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Redshirt junior left-hander Brandon Snyder got the last out of the fifth and pitched the sixth without allowing a baserunner, and sophomore Kurtis Roberts loaded the bases but had two strikeouts in a scoreless seventh.

ESU opened the scoring on an RBI double by junior OF Eric Boyer and sacrifice fly by Ernst in the first, but Minnesota-Crookston plated two in the bottom of the inning to tie it at 2-2.

A two-run single by Menendez put the Warriors ahead for good in the second. Knott hit a one-out triple and scored on an RBI groundout by Patete in the third, and Menendez made it 6-2 in the fourth when he walked, moved up on a single by Gallagher, advanced on a double steal and scored on an RBI groundout by Ernst.

Minnesota-Crookston made it 6-3 in the bottom of the fourth, but the Warriors got the run back in the fifth when Kelmer hit a two-out single, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Guarino.

The opposition threatened again in the bottom of the fifth, using two hits, an error and two walks to score a run before Snyder came on to get a comebacker to end the threat.

Neither team scored in the sixth – the first frame ESU didn't push a runner across the plate – but the Warriors added two more in the seventh as Menendez walked to score a run and Gallagher lifted a sacrifice fly for the 9-4 final.
