PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia University made the most of its four hits, scoring six runs in the first five innings and holding on for a 6-4 win over East Stroudsburg University in non-conference baseball on Monday.
The Warriors (17-7), who were back on the field after a doubleheader sweep at Mansfield on Sunday, had 10 hits but also left 10 runners on base as their late comeback came up short.
The two teams will meet again on Thursday at ESU's Mitterling Field in a nine-inning game scheduled for 3 p.m.
Both teams manufactured runs in the first inning before the Rams took the lead for good in the bottom of the second.
ESU junior OF
Zac Menendez drew a leadoff walk, stole second and third and scored on a groundout by senior SS
Evan Gallagher to put the Warriors on the board. Philadelphia U took advantage of a leadoff hit by pitch, two wild pitches and an RBI groundout to score in the bottom half.
In the second, three ESU errors led to the go-ahead run. The Rams had two of their four hits in the third, with a leadoff double by Hunter Greenwood, a hit batter and an RBI single by Jake Madnick leading to two runs.
A walk, another error and a base hit by T.J. Burgmann put Philadelphia U ahead 6-1 in the fifth before ESU got back on the board in the seventh.

Eric Boyer delivered RBI singles before a double play got the Rams out of the frame.

Zac Menendez walked to start the inning, but a double play on an infield fly cost the Warriors an out and a base runner before Boyer came through with an RBI single to make it 6-4. Ernst followed with a base hit to put the tying run on first but a fly ball ended the game.
Gallagher, Boyer and Knott had two hits each to lead ESU offensively and Menendez was 1-for-3 with two walks and two stolen bases in the leadoff spot.

Michael Muglia (3.0 IP, 2 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, 2 strikeouts) started and was dealt the loss for ESU. Redshirt freshman
Max Mueller went 2.0 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out one and walking two. Freshman
Jabin Weaver (3.0 IP, 3 strikeouts, 4 walks) didn't allow a run or a hit after taking over in the sixth.
David Lerro evened his record at 2-2 for Philadelphia U, going 5.0 innings with four strikeouts, two walks, two hits and a run. Brown (4.0 IP, 8 hits, 3 runs, 1 strikeout, 4 walks) got the save.
