No. 9 Gannon Rallies for 3-1 win over ESU Men’s Soccer

EAST STROUDSBURG - Robbie Bennett scored two goals and assisted on the third, all in the first 15 minutes of the second half, as No. 9-ranked Gannon rallied from one goal and one man down for a 3-1 win over East Stroudsburg University in PSAC men's soccer on Saturday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

The Golden Knights (6-0, 2-0), playing with 10 men due to a red card in the 33rd minute, tied it on Bennett's goal 1:46 into the second half and took the lead 41 seconds later when Bennett set up Alex Perri.

Bennett added Gannon's third goal in the 60th minute on an assist from Perri as they rallied from a second-half deficit for the second straight day. Gannon trailed Bloomsburg at the half, 2-0, in a 4-2 win on Friday.

ESU (1-5, 0-2) jumped on the Golden Knights early when senior midfielder Nick Fischer broke free and deposited a pass from sophomore midfielder Denis Loboda for a 1-0 lead 2:45 into the contest.

The first half featured four cards - three yellow and one red - and 18 total fouls. There was one yellow card shown in the second half.

ESU held an 11-10 advantage in shots for the game, 9-5 in the second half. Gannon's Jason Barbarino made five saves, all in the second half.

The Warriors are away from conference action for their next three games, and away from Eiler-Martin Stadium for three of their next four. They travel to Caldwell on Thursday and Philadelphia University on Sept. 26 before hosting Seton Hill in a non-league game on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m.
