PHILADELPHIA – Sophomores
Wesley Fossile and
Daniel Snyder both scored their first goals of the season as East Stroudsburg University, playing without five starters, handed Philadelphia University its first loss of the season with a 2-0 shutout in non-conference men's soccer on Wednesday afternoon.
Fossile scored in the 13th minute, assisted by senior
Nemanja Nikolic, and Snyder scored in the 21st minute for ESU (2-6), which didn't outshoot its opponent for just the second time this year but came away with its second win.
Freshman
Callum Hampson made three saves for the Warriors, all in the second half. Philadelphia (4-1-4), ranked fifth in the East Region in this week's NSCAA poll, had advantages of 13-6 in shots and 9-1 in corner kicks – and 10-3 and 8-1, respectively, after halftime.
Fossile scored his second career goal and Snyder's was the first of his career. Two Warriors made their first starts of the season and ESU played without two of its three starting backs due to injury, All-PSAC selections
Suane McLeish and
Khriswayne Wallace.
ESU hosts Seton Hill in a non-conference game on Sunday at 1 p.m. before playing six straight PSAC games in a span of 17 days. The Warriors are 0-2 in the conference, falling to Mercyhurst and Gannon on Sept. 14-15, and return to PSAC action on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Lock Haven.
