Warriors Basketball Hosts Millersville Wednesday Night on Blue Ridge TV-13

EAST STROUDSBURG - Aurielle Mosley scored 20 points and Mashira Newman had eight points, six assists and 11 steals as Millersville pulled away from East Stroudsburg University for a 69-55 win in PSAC East women's basketball on Wednesday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Sophomore forward Jessica Martin had 15 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocks for her second straight double-double and freshman center Michelle Boggs had 11 points and nine rebounds, both career-highs, for ESU (5-11, 4-8). Junior guard Andrea Veres added 10 points for the Warriors.

Senada Mehmedovic scored 14 points, Miesha Cousins had nine points and 12 rebounds, Carly Gallagher produced 10 points and five assists and Mosley added seven rebounds for Millersville (11-5, 8-4), which remained one game behind PSAC East leader Bloomsburg.

THE MATCH-UP: East Stroudsburg University hosts Millersville tonight at Koehler Fieldhouse as the Warriors return from a four-game road trip. ESU came away with a 66-59 win at Mansfield last Wednesday to open a two-game lead over the Mounties for the 6th and final playoff spot in the PSAC East. Millersville, one game out of first in the PSAC East, is 2-3 in its last 5 games and coming off a 94-78 loss at West Chester on Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT: So. F Jessica Martin had ESU's first 15-point, 15-rebound game in three years but the Warriors fell at Kutztown, 69-57. Martin had her 4th double-double of the season and 8th of her career, and Jr. G Andrea Veres and So. G Ryann Fiascki both scored 11 points. ESU led 25-20 before Kutztown ended the first half with a 12-3 run.

WARRIORS NOTES: Fiascki leads the PSAC and is 19th in DII in free throw percentage (88.5, 46-52) ... she led the PSAC and set a PSAC freshman record last year (87.4, 83-95), and has scored 10+ points in 3 straight games ... Martin is 4th in the PSAC in blocked shots (1.7) and 5th in rebounds (8.5) ... Sr. G Barb Borst is tied for 3rd in ESU history with 117 career 3-pointers ... Veres is 6th with 97 ... Martin went over 100 career blocks Wednesday at Mansfield (102 in 41 career games) ... Martin had 13 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 steals and 4 blocks at Mansfield ... she had 10 points, 13 boards and 5 blocks in ESU's 65-58 home win vs. Millersville last year.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS: Millersville (10-5, 7-4) leads the PSAC in turnovers forced (24.5) and offensive rebounds (18.3) and is 3rd in field goal defense (35.4) ... R-Sr. F Aurielle Mosley (13.4 ppg, 7.9 rpg), 2-time All-PSAC East 1st team, is 2nd in PSAC in blocked shots (2.5) ... R-Sr. G Mashira Newman, also All-PSAC East 1st team last year, posts 12.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.1 steals ... R-So. G Carly Gallagher (11.6) and Jr. G Senada Mehmedovic (10.5) also average double figures.

EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University rode a historic defensive effort in the first half to a 68-52 win over Millersville, tying a school record with its fifth straight PSAC win by double figures, on Wednesday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.

The Warriors (14-2, 11-1) continued their best-ever PSAC start and extended their winning streak to eight games and 12 of their last 13 by holding Millersville to 13 points in the first half – the fewest in their 297 games under 11th-year head coach Jeff Wilson. ESU was first in “others receiving votes” in this week's NABC Top 25 poll.

Sophomore guard Whis Grant scored 17 points, senior forward Terrance King and sophomore guard Matt Tobin scored 14 each and senior forward Duane Johnson had five points and a career-high 14 rebounds for ESU, which holds a two-game lead on West Chester for the top spot in the PSAC East.

THE MATCH-UP: ESU, which is riding a school-record 9-game road winning streak against PSAC opponents, plays on its home floor for the first time since January 5 as the PSAC East leading Warriors (13-2, 10-1) host 2nd-place Millersville (12-5, 8-3). ESU has won 7 straight and 11 of 12 overall, while the Marauders have won 4 of their last 5 and had an impressive road win at West Chester, 68-64, on Saturday to move into a tie for 2nd.

LAST TIME OUT: Sr. F Duane Johnson and So. G Whis Grant both scored 19 points and Fr. F Dajon Todmann added a career-high 18 as the Warriors surged past Kutztown, 81-62. ESU closed the first half on a 20-2 run to improve to 7-0 on the road at PSAC schools this season.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS: Sr. C Elijah Obade leads DII in rebounding (11.9) and is 8th in blocked shots (2.5), part of a Marauder defense that is 8th in DII in 3-point defense (28.3), 15th in field goal % (38.9) and 17th in scoring (60.7) ... Sr. G Larry Grant (14.1 ppg), Obade (13.2 ppg, 59.4 fg%) and Jr. G Anthony Coleman (10.3 ppg) lead the offense ... Marauders were 5-3 vs. PSAC West and beat Cheyney (56-48) and WCU last week.
