EAST STROUDSBURG – Redshirt sophomore quarterback Matt Soltes threw for 197 yards and a career-high six touchdowns, and redshirt freshman tailback Robert Healy ran for 158 yards and a score, as East Stroudsburg University notched a 66-7 win over Millersville in PSAC East football on Saturday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Soltes threw five of his six TD passes in the first half as the Warriors built a 54-0 lead, scoring 27 points in each of the first two quarters. ESU led 60-0 before Millersville got on the board on the final play of the third quarter. ESU's 54 first-half points were third-most in 417 games under head coach Denny Douds, who extended his PSAC record with his 244th career win.

R-So. WR Jon Schnaars had four catches for 86 yards and three TD, R-Sr. WR Robert Bleiler had four catches for 59 yards and two TD, and So. WR Joe Welk (2-53) and R-So. WR Brandon Mercer (2-25) also had TD catches.

The Warriors scored touchdowns on 10 of their first 11 possessions, with the 11th resulting in a 57-yard field goal attempt by Sr. K Taylor Groff in the second quarter. They lost a fumble on their final possession in the 4th quarter, just their 8th turnover of the year in 10 games.

ESU won its third straight game to improve to 7-3 going into next Saturday's season finale against Mercyhurst at 1:05 p.m.

Healy scored on a 58-yard run on the first play from scrimmage and Soltes threw a pair of TD passes to Bleiler, covering five and 33 yards, as ESU led 20-0 before 10 minutes had elapsed.

Soltes became the fourth ESU quarterback to throw six TD passes in a game, joining Damian Poalucci (four times), Jimmy Terwilliger (two times) and Ray Wagner, who did it most recently in the first half of the 2011 season opener against Pace.

Healy broke an ESU freshman record for yards from scrimmage (rushing plus receiving) with 1,231 yards this season, surpassing 1,222 yards by Stewart Ford in 1997. Healy is 46 yards from Ford's freshman rushing record (1,109) and 97 yards from the school rushing record of 1,160 set by Andre Castiglioni in 2000.

Healy had his fifth 100-yard rushing game of the season and joins Ford as the only ESU freshmen backs with two 150+ yard games.

Senior kicker Taylor Groff was 6-for-9 on extra points, with one miss and two blocks, to become the third kicker in PSAC history with 300 career points. Groff set ESU's career record last week and has 301 points going into the season finale. He is also one field goal from Ed Detwiler's career record of 50.

The Warriors' defense forced four turnovers, with So. CB Teron Dobbs and Fr. FS Dean Vitale both picking off their fifth passes of the year. Jr. LB Cody Simcox had a team-high 10 tackles and R-Jr. DL Bryan Thomson had six tackles, 3.0 TFL, a forced fumble and his seventh sack of the season.

ESU had gained at least 600 yards in three straight home games before posting 462 yards on 59 plays, an average of 7.8 yards per play. The Warriors threw for 257 yards and rushed for 205.

The Warriors outgained the Marauders, 340 to 59, in the first half with Healy running for 121 yards on 10 carries, and Soltes going 11-for-19 for 167 yards and five TD. Soltes was 2-for-3 for 30 yards and a TD on the first series of the third quarter, an eight-play, 69-yard drive.

Millersville gained 189 yards on 64 plays with freshman quarterback Corey Unger going 6-for-24 for 68 yards with two interceptions. Tailback David Coates threw a 12-yard TD pass to Kevin Porter for the Marauders' only scoring play.

Senior tailback Ian Sadon led the Millersville offense with 27 carries for 96 yards, just missing his fifth 100-yard rushing game of the season.

Junior tailback Gerald Van De Cruz added to Healy's 158-yard game with 10 carries for 33 yards and two TD, scoring from three and two yards out in a three-minute stretch spanning the first and second quarters.

R-Sr. QB Nate Daniels completed his only pass, a third-down strike to Schnaars that turned into a 42-yard touchdown with 8:59 remaining in the fourth quarter.


GAME NOTES
* Douds coached his 417th career game and faced his 104th different head coach in Greg Breitbach. Douds is 69-35 against first-time opponents in his 40-year career.

* Douds is 3rd in Division II history, and 23rd in college football history, with 244 career victories.
* Douds is 244-170-3 in 40 seasons as head coach at ESU.

* ESU is averaging 42.9 points per game, just ahead of the school record of 42.5 set in 2005.
* ESU is averaging 526.9 yards per game, ahead of the school record of 509.1 set in 1996.

* ESU did not have a punt for the 7th time in 417 games under Douds. The other games were: 2010 vs. Cheyney (W 58-14), 2006 vs. Cheyney (W 48-7), 2006 vs. Kutztown (W 56-16), 2005 at Clarion (W 56-0), 2004 at Mansfield (W 41-7), and 1983 vs. Mansfield (W 50-8).

* Soltes has 34 TD passes and 3 interceptions this season. He leads PSAC QB's in pass efficiency at 173.7 and is averaging 347.1 yards total offense and 302.3 yards passing.

* Soltes has 6,629 career yards total offense – 371 yards from becoming the 5th QB in NCAA DII history with 7,000 career yards as a sophomore.

* His 6,629 yards are 2nd-most by a PSAC QB through his sophomore year, behind ESU's Jimmy Terwilliger (7,634). His 55 TD passes are also 2nd behind Terwilliger's 63, and 5,645 passing yards are 3rd behind Terwilliger (6,813) and Edinboro's Trevor Harris (6,175).

* Soltes is the 4th ESU QB with 6+ TD passes and 0 interceptions - joining Jimmy Terwilliger (8-0, 2006 vs. Kutztown), Damian Poalucci (7-0, 1996 vs. SCSU) and Ray Wagner (6-0, 2011 vs. Pace)

* Bleiler has 63 catches for 1,093 yards and 12 TD – tied for 5th in ESU's record book in catches and touchdowns, and 6th in yards, going into the season finale.
* On ESU's career lists, Bleiler now ranks: 7th in catches (143), 5th in yards (2,508) and t-6th in TD's (20).

* Healy's 1,063 rushing yards rank 4th in ESU's single-season record book. His 1,231 yards from scrimmage also rank 4th – and are 66 yards behind Anthony Carfagno's record (1,297) for an ESU running back.

* Healy and Bleiler are the 3rd set of ESU teammates with 1,000 yards rushing/receiving in the same season.  They join:
1997 - Stewart Ford (1,109 rushing) and Brett Witmer (1,040)
2005 - Derek Lucas (1,021 rushing) and Evan Prall (1,766), Tim Strenfel (1,189)

* Healy and Bleiler are the only teammates in the PSAC with 1,000 yards rushing/receiving through 10 games.

* Soltes ranks 4th at ESU in total offense in a season with 3,471 yards - 1 yard more than Jimmy Terwilliger had in his senior year in 2006. Soltes had 3,158 yards - now 10th all-time - as a freshman.
* He ranks 5th in passing yards in a season with 3,023. He is the 4th ESU QB to throw for 3,000 yards in a season, joining Jimmy Terwilliger (2004, 2005), Damian Poalucci (1996) and Ray Wagner (2011).
* He ranks 4th in passing TD in a season with 34. Terwilliger holds the record of 50 in 2005, Poalucci threw 40 in 1996, and Terwilliger threw 35 in 2006.

* His 173.7 pass efficiency ranks 3rd at ESU behing Terwilliger in 2005 (186.1) and 2004 (174.1).

* On ESU's career lists, Soltes now ranks: 6th in total offense (6,629), 6th in passing yards (5,645 - passing Andy Baranek's 5,533) and 5th in TD passes (55 - passing Bret Comp's 50).

* Groff's 57-yard field goal attempt would have broken the school record of 53 by Greg Knauss vs. IUP in 2007, and the PSAC record of 55 yards by Eric Wentling (West Chester vs. Bloomsburg) in 1983.
* Groff's career-long is 52 yards, which he hit three times. He had 4 career field goals of 51+ yards, the only kicker in PSAC history with more than one.
* Groff is now 4-for-11 on field goals over 50 yards in his career.
* His career field goal percentage of 67.1 (49-for-73) is one-tenth of a point behind Mark Brubaker's record of 67.2 (39-for-58), set from 2002-05.
