No. 12 Warriors Improve to 10-0 with 102-69 Win at Edinboro

EDINBORO - No. 12-ranked East Stroudsburg University opened the second half with a 13-2 spurt and kept going, running past Edinboro for a 102-69 win and a 10-0 start in non-conference men's basketball on Wednesday night at McComb Fieldhouse.

Junior guard Matt Tobin scored 18 points, junior guard Whis Grant scored 12 and sophomore guard Jamal Nwaniemeka had 11 for the Warriors, who had nine players score at least six points each, and 14 players who scored overall.

ESU led 43-37 at halftime before hitting its first six shots in the second half, including two three-pointers by Grant, to break the game open. The Warriors scored eight points in the first 1:16 of the second half to lead 51-37. They stretched the lead to 20 (65-45) with 13 minutes left, and 30 (88-57) with just over five minutes remaining.

The Warriors opened 10-0 for the fifth time in school history, and put together their fourth 10+ game winning streak in the last seven years. They also won 10 games before January 1 for the first time in school history.

ESU has won six straight games by double figures for just the fourth time in the last 70 years, outscoring its opponents by an average of 20.7 points per game. The Warriors won 76-64 at Slippery Rock on Tuesday night behind 24 points from freshman forward Rasheed Moore.

Redshirt junior guard Will Brown scored eight points, junior forward Lamont Tillery scored seven, Moore had seven and sophomore guard Malcolm Richardson added seven points and a career-high nine assists. Senior forward Zechariah Runkle and sophomore forward Dajon Todmann had six points each.

Tobin and Richardson, who made his second career start, combined for 25 points, 13 assists and just one turnover from the point guard spot.

ESU scored 100 points in a road game in regulation at a PSAC school for the first time since a 105-81 win at Mansfield on February 13, 1989.

The Warriors shot 61.3 percent from the field (38-for-62) and 11-for-23 from the three-point line, had a 16-9 advantage in turnovers and nabbed 11 steals. They assisted on 25 of their 38 field goals and scored 59 bench points.

ESU finishes a three-game week with a home game against Mercyhurst on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Koehler Fieldhouse, before a two-week holiday break.

The Lakers are 5-4 on the season, falling 56-55 to Lock Haven before beating Bloomsburg, 66-62, on Wednesday night.
