EAST STROUDSBURG – Redshirt sophomore Max Mueller threw a two-hit shutout in his first career start in a 1-0, walk-off win in the opener, and senior second baseman Joe Bennie was 4-for-5 with a three-run homer in an 8-2 win in the nightcap as East Stroudsburg University swept a non-conference baseball doubleheader against Bloomfield on Thursday.

The Warriors (18-8) extended their winning streak to six with the help of a walk-off single by junior DH Mike Tenaglia in game one. It was ESU's third walk-off win in the last 13 days, and the first by a 1-0 score in at least 10 years.

Bennie stayed hot at the plate after going 4-for-4 with two walks and a grand slam in a 12-5 win at Mercy College on Tuesday. He was 5-for-7 with a walk on Thursday and is 9-for-11 with three walks, two doubles, two home runs and eight RBI in the last three games.

Mueller struck out six, walked two and gave up base hits in the second and fourth innings for his first career shutout. He retired 11 of the final 12 batters he faced, yielding just a two-out walk in the seventh, while pitching all 7.0 innings with the score tied, 0-0.

Junior Jake Ruch was the winning pitcher in game two, going 5.0 innings and allowing one run on five hits.

ESU takes on defending NCAA Division II champion West Chester (16-10-1, 7-1) in a four-game PSAC East series this weekend. The series will begin at West Chester on Saturday before returning to ESU on Sunday at 1 p.m. (NOTE: Friday's home doubleheader postponed due to inclement weather forecast)

Game 1

ESU managed just two hits in the first six innings before all three batters reached base in the seventh to push across the game's only run.

Senior OF Eric Boyer led off with a single to right, senior 1B Brian Ernst was hit by a pitch and Tenaglia drove a ball to deep left field that glanced off the glove of Diego Espinosa on a dead sprint to plate Boyer with the winning run.

Boyer has collected a leadoff hit and scored the winning run in all three walk-off wins in the last two weeks. He singled and scored on a two-out single by junior OF Chris Knott for a 3-2 win over University of the Sciences on March 30, and doubled and scored on a one-out single by junior C Eric Forth in a 4-3 win over Mansfield last Saturday (April 6).

Boyer also scored the Warriors' previous walk-off run as a freshman, a 6-5 win over Washington Adventist on April 14, 2010.

Mueller gave up a one-out single in the second and a leadoff single in the fourth, which was immediately erased with a double play.

Blas Polanco threw a complete game for Bloomfield, allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

Game 2

ESU loaded the bases but didn't score in the first, but broke through for four runs in the second keyed by Bennie's three-run shot to left center. Redshirt freshman Matt Walewski led off with a double and junior catcher Jimmy Graziano had a bunt single for his first career hit, followed by Bennie's homer. He has five of the Warriors' nine home runs this season.

The Warriors loaded the bases and added another run on a walk by Knott for a 4-0 lead through two innings.

Bennie had an RBI double to score Linares (infield single) in the third, and the Warriors tagged on an unearned run in the fourth for a 6-0 lead as Knott singled and Walewski clubbed his second double of the game.

Bloomfield scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings before ESU closed the scoring with two in the bottom of the sixth, including a pinch-hit RBI double by Forth.

ESU had 12 hits, led by Bennie's fourth four-hit game of the season.

Senior Michael Muglia and redshirt senior Brandon Snyder both pitched an inning in relief of Ruch, who won his first career decision.

Knott had a 12-game hitting streak snapped in the opener before collecting a hit in game two.
