MILLERSVILLE – Sophomore Travis Toth had a 10-foot PR in the hammer throw to better his NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark, and senior Matt Tholis continued his outstanding season in the javelin to highlight East Stroudsburg University's performances at the Millersville Metrics on Saturday.

Toth had a mark of 192-8, the second-best in school history, to top his mark of 182-3 at the season opener at Washington and Lee two weeks ago.

Tholis, who had the second-best mark in DII with a school-record and NCAA automatic of 226-5 last week at Lafayette, had a throw of 222-1. Senior Josh Hontz was third at 199-10 after hitting 207-3 last week.

ESU athletes won six individual events and two relays at the same venue where they will compete in the PSAC Championships on May 9-11.

Senior Lauren Ventrella won the 100m hurdles in 14.97 and five men won individual events – Tholis, Toth, sophomore Mark Burgess in the 100m dash (11.00), junior Keith Parker-Washington in the 200m (22.03) and freshman William Berry in the high jump (6-4 3/4).

The men's 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay also posted victories. The 4x1 of sophomore Brandon Mercer, Parker-Washington, sophomore Brett Yeomans and Burgess won in 41.82, and Parker-Washington, senior Mike Saparito, freshman Kyle Williams and senior Andrew Sloves won the 4x4 in 3:22.28.

ESU's women were led by Ventrella, who was fourth in the 400m hurdles with a PR of 1:04.83 along with winning the 100m hurdles and running on the fourth-place 4x100m relay (49.45) with junior Rachel Pierantozzi, freshman Tirzah Johnson and sophomore Danielle Smith.

Smith was third in the 100m in 12.75 and Pierantozzi was ninth in 12.92. Sophomore Christina O'Connor tied for second in the high jump (5-3 3/4) and junior Theresa Horn tied for fourth (5-1 3/4). Junior Laura Beimfohr tied for third in the pole vault at 10-8.

The Warriors had two of the top finishers in the men's 100m dash in Burgess and Mercer, who was fifth in 11.28. Saparito, a standout 800m runner, was sixth in the 400m in 51.06 and senior Mike Pereira was fourth in the 3000m steeplechase (9:58.15).

Senior Kyle Soden was fifth in the 110m hurdles (16.29) and fourth in the high jump (6-2 3/4). Sophomore Donovan Tolbert was second in the triple jump at 45-4 1/2.

Sophomore Casey Ciaston joined Toth, Tholis and Hontz with a strong performance in the throws. He was fifth in the shot put at 47-7 3/4, a PR of more than a foot.

The Warriors are at Moravian and Bucknell next weekend and host the ESU All-American Meet on April 20.
