EAST STROUDSBURG – Fernando Martinez scored three goals to lead No. 17-ranked Mercyhurst to a 5-0 win over East Stroudsburg University in PSAC men's soccer on Saturday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Martinez scored 43 seconds into the game and also tallied in the 30th and 32nd minutes for the Lakers (3-1, 2-0), who are the defending PSAC champions and advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four last season.

Jack Watson scored in the 20th minute and Danny Deakin capped Mercyhurst's scoring in the 37th minute.

Sophomores Callum Hampson (four saves) and J.B. Pahls (two saves) both played 45 minutes in goal for ESU. Mikko Sarkkinen made five saves for Mercyhurst.

ESU hosts Caldwell in non-conference action on Tuesday at 7 p.m., and welcomes West Chester to Eiler-Martin Stadium the following Tuesday (Sept. 24) for their next conference game.
