Box Score

MANSFIELD - No. 6-ranked East Stroudsburg University trailed 50-48 with 15:20 left - then went on a 34-3 run in just over six minutes to sprint past Mansfield and remain unbeaten (19-0) with a 112-79 road win in PSAC East men's basketball on Wednesday night at Decker Gymnasium.

ESU, one of three undefeated teams left in Division II, set a school record for their longest overall win streak at 19 games - breaking a mark of 18 wins spanning the 1941-42 and 1942-43 seasons.

ESU assumes sole possession of Division II's longest active winning streak after No. 2 Florida Southern fell to 18-1 with an 82-76 (OT) loss at Rollins.

The Warriors also posted their 10th straight road win, tying a mark set in 1926-27 through 1927-28 - the first 10 road games in program history. They tied the 1940-41 through 1941-42 teams with their 15th straight win over a PSAC school, and matched the 1932-33 and 1942-43 teams with their eight straight win by double figures.

The game was very much in doubt until the 15-minute mark, as ESU never led in the first half but trailed just 40-37 after junior guard Matt Tobin hit a three-pointer at the buzzer.

ESU's 75-point second half was its highest scoring half in 329 games under head coach Jeff Wilson, who improves to 202-127 in his 12th season.

ESU had six players in double figures led by freshman forward Sultan Aminu, who scored 18 points on 8-for-11 shooting after scoring 26 points in ESU's first 18 games. Aminu had played 12 minutes in the first eight PSAC East games.

Freshman forward Rasheed Moore scored 17 points, followed by junior guard Whis Grant (14), Tobin (13 points, 8 assists), redshirt junior guard Will Brown (12) and junior forward Lamont Tillery (10). Senior forward Zechariah Runkle had four points and 10 rebounds.

Joe Bell, a two-time All-PSAC East first team selection, led four Mansfield players in double figures with 17 points.

ESU, coming off a 107-94 win at West Chester on Saturday with a closing 22-3 run, extended a school record with their seventh 100-point game and did it in consecutive games for the first time this year.

Grant, who was named PSAC East Athlete of the Week after scoring a career-high 31 points at West Chester, had just three points in the first 25 minutes before hitting two free throws with 15:10 left - tying the game at 50-50 and starting a 19-0 stretch.

Brown had a putback eight seconds later to give the Warriors the lead for good, hit a three-pointer a half-minute later, and Grant made two free throws after an intentional foul to stretch the lead to 57-50 and the run to 9-0.

Moore scored after an immediate turnover, and ESU added the next eight points in a minute span for a 67-48 lead at the 12-minute mark.

Ryan Krawczeniuk hit a three-pointer for Mansfield to end the run - but ESU answered with the next 15 points to break it wide open.

In all, ESU scored on 16 straight possessions in a six-minute stretch, and 31 of their 35 possessions in the last 15 minutes.

The Warriors (19-0, 9-0 PSAC East), in the midst of the PSAC's longest winning streak in 19 years, host Kutztown (6-12, 4-4) on Saturday at Koehler Fieldhouse. The Golden Bears were idle on Wednesday night.
