ABERDEEN, Md. – Senior Keenan Stare tied East Stroudsburg University's record for career saves as the Warriors split a non-conference doubleheader with Pitt-Johnstown, winning the opener 3-1 before falling 2-0, on Saturday at the Ripken Baseball Complex in Maryland.

Stare nailed down his 10th career save, and fourth of the season, with two strikeouts around a one-out single in the opener.

Senior Ryan Lubreski (5.0 IP, 1 run, 2 hits) earned the win, improving to 2-0 on the year and 10-1 in his two seasons at ESU.

ESU (8-1) dropped its first game of the season in the nightcap. The Warriors' 8-0 start is the second-best in school history behind a 10-0 start in 2011.

Derek Younker (6.0 IP) and Nate Pope combined on a six-hitter for the Mountain Cats (2-6), who are in their first season in the PSAC West after previously competing in the WVIAC.

ESU's single nine-inning game vs. Philadelphia University on Sunday in Maryland has been postponed.

GAME 1 – W 3-1

UPJ took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but Lubreski got a strikeout to retire the side and held the Mountain Cats to one hit over the next three innings in his best start of the season.

The Warriors tied it in the third as senior SS Eric Linares singled with one out, stole second and scored on a two-out RBI single by redshirt sophomore 3B Drew Hercik.

ESU took the lead in the fourth with two runs on two hits and a UPJ error. Senior C Eric Forth singled and scored on an RBI double by redshirt senior DH Nico Delerme, who came around to score later in the frame on a throwing error after an infield single by freshman OF Ian Allen.

Sophomore Brandon Holup struck out two and allowed one hit in a scoreless sixth inning, and Stare came on for his career record-tying save in the seventh.

Stare closed the first three of ESU's four wins at Chowan last weekend as the Warriors improved to 7-0. He is tied on ESU's career list with Anthony Clemens (2007-09) and Ryan Beck (2010-12).

GAME 2 – L 2-0

Younker and Pope scattered six hits, with ESU senior OF Chris Knott going 3-for-3 in the No. 3 hole for the Warriors.

Redshirt sophomore Matt Festa made his second start of the year and went 5.0 innings, allowing one run on five hits and strikeout out six. Festa has 16 strikeouts and a 2.84 ERA in 12.2 innings this season.

Jake Stern was 3-for-4 for UPJ and the Mountain Cats scored their runs in the third and seventh innings.
