ABERDEEN, Md. – Redshirt senior
Nico Delerme continued his torrid hitting pace, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and four RBI, as East Stroudsburg University split a non-conference baseball doubleheader with Clarion on Friday at the Ripken Baseball Complex in Maryland.
ESU (10-3), ranked No. 2 in the Atlantic Region and No. 20 in Division II in this week's NCBWA polls, travels to Flemington, N.J. on Monday for a doubleheader with the University of the Sciences.
Senior outfielder
Chris Knott tied a school record with his 14th career triple in game two, matching a mark set by Ryan Hatfield from 2000-03. Knott ranks in ESU's top six in career doubles (34), triples and home runs (14) and is four extra-base hits from tying the career record of 66 held by Kevin Thompson (2005-09).
Delerme was 3-for-3 with two doubles and a walk in an 11-2 win in the opener, as the Warriors scored six runs (three earned) in the first inning to open a big lead.
ESU had 11 hits with Delerme and sophomore outfielder
John Armbrust collecting three each, and senior 1B/DH
Mike Tenaglia going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs.
Senior
Ryan Lubreski improved to 3-0 on the season and 11-1 in his career, going 5.0 innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits.
In the second game, ESU led 5-1 after two innings but couldn't dent the scoreboard any further off Clarion freshman Kane McCall, who improved to 2-0.
Delerme hit a three-run homer in the first inning for ESU. Clarion scored five runs (two earned) in the fifth inning to go ahead 8-5 and added a final run in the seventh.
