Game 1 - W 12-0
Game 2 - W 10-1
FLEMINGTON, N.J. – Senior outfielder
Chris Knott set a school record for career triples and moved within one extra-base hit of the career mark in that category, leading East Stroudsburg University to a doubleheader sweep (12-0, 11-1) of the University of the Sciences in non-conference baseball on Tuesday at Diamond Nation.
ESU improved to 12-3 going into this weekend's PSAC East series with Millersville, which will be played Friday and Saturday at the Marauders' Cooper Park. Friday's doubleheader was originally scheduled to be played at ESU as the Warriors open defense of their 2013 PSAC championship, their first since 1971.
Knott was 5-for-7 with two doubles, a triple, three RBI and four runs to lead an ESU offense that produced 29 hits, 13 for extra bases (nine doubles, two triples and two home runs) and 22 runs in 13 innings.
He belted his third triple of the season and 15th of his career in the opener, breaking a mark of 14 set by second baseman Ryan Hatfield from 2000-03.
Knott is second at ESU with 65 career extra-base hits behind Kevin Thompson, who had 66 from 2005-09. He ranks fifth with 36 doubles (eight from the record of 44), and tied for fifth with 14 home runs (three from the record of 17). He is also second with 120 career RBI behind Thompson's record of 120, and is ranked in or just outside the top 10 in every career offensive category.
ESU remained ranked No. 20 in this week's NCBWA Division II poll for the third straight week. The Warriors are also No. 2 in the NCBWA Atlantic Region poll for the third straight week.
