WEST CHESTER – Sophomore right-hander Brandon Holup threw a four-hitter for his second straight complete game, leading East Stroudsburg University to a 3-1 win in the second game of a PSAC East baseball doubleheader on Tuesday at West Chester.

The Warriors (17-8, 3-5) split a road twinbill for the second straight day after winning the opener at Shippensburg on Monday. ESU hosts Ship (18-5, 6-2) in the second half of its series – postponed from last weekend – in its home opener on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Mitterling Field.

West Chester (11-7, 4-4) won Tuesday's opener, 4-3. The Warriors are in the midst of a stretch of 10 games (five PSAC East doubleheaders) in a six-day span, as they face Lock Haven on Friday and Saturday after Wednesday's visit from Shippensburg.

ESU faced the Golden Rams for the first time since a 7-1 win in last year's PSAC championship game in Johnstown. The back half of the series will be played at ESU on Tuesday, April 15.

Holup threw his first career complete game in a 7-2 victory at Millersville on March 22, and came up with another big performance at West Chester. He struck out five, walked one and allowed one run on four hits to improve to 3-1 with a 1.40 ERA in 25.2 innings (seven games, three starts).

Redshirt sophomore 3B Drew Hercik had four of ESU's 14 hits on the day, with two hits in each game. Senior OF Chris Knott, who leads the PSAC with a .442 batting average, was 3-for-7 and has hit safely in 13 straight games.

Game 1 – L 4-3

ESU answered a three-run third inning with a three-run fifth, but West Chester got a run in the bottom of the inning and Kyle Weary threw 2.2 innings of one-hit relief for the Golden Rams.

ESU loaded the bases in the fifth on a walk by sophomore 2B Nick Rabasco and singles by Hercik and Knott. Forth reached on an error by the shortstop which brought two runs home, and senior DH Mike Tenaglia hit an RBI groundout to tie the game at 3-3.

WCU loaded the bases with nobody out in the fifth, bringing on freshman Ben Bortz (2.0 IP, 1 hit, 2 strikeouts) in relief of senior Matt Smith (4.0 IP, 4 runs, 7 hits, 5 strikeouts, 1 walk). Bortz gave up a go-ahead single by Tyler Coleman before getting out of the inning without any further damage.

The Warriors got baserunners in both the sixth and seventh innings but couldn't get the tying run home. In the seventh, redshirt senior catcher Nico Delerme had a leadoff walk and pinch-runner Nick Espino advanced to third on a pair of ground balls before Weary got a flyout to end it.

Joe Gutowski started and went 4.1 innings (3 runs, 2 earned on 7 hits) for West Chester before Weary came on in the fifth.

Game 2 – W 3-1

Holup allowed just five baserunners and retired the final seven batters he faced in a tight game.

ESU scored single runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings. West Chester got its only run in the fifth on a two-out RBI single by Kyle Frazier.

In the third, Bortz led off with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by senior SS Eric Linares and scored on an RBI single by Rabasco.

The Warriors made it 2-0 with two outs in the fifth, as Hercik singled, Knott was hit by a pitch and Delerme reached on an error that allowed Hercik to score.

The Warriors added another unearned run in the seventh. Linares struck out but reached on a wild pitch, Rabasco had a sacrifice bunt, Hercik reached on an error, Knott singled to load the bases and Delerme drove in Linares with a fielders choice.
