SCHEDULE UPDATE: DH vs. West Chester moved up to Monday at 1 p.m. (ESU at Mansfield on Sunday)

EAST STROUDSBURG – Senior Keenan Stare set a school record with his 11th career save and redshirt freshman 2B Jay Young hit a key two-run single in the sixth inning of the opener, leading East Stroudsburg University to a sweep of Mansfield in PSAC East baseball on Saturday afternoon at Mitterling Field.

The Warriors (22-11, 8-8) rallied from a 4-0 deficit after the first inning in game one, scoring three runs in the sixth on Young's single and the go-ahead, two-out triple by redshirt sophomore 3B Drew Hercik.

Stare entered for senior right-hander Ryan Lubreski (5-1) and retired the side in order in the seventh for his fifth save of the season and the 11th of his career. He breaks a tie with Ryan Beck (2010-12) and Anthony Clemens (2007-09) for the most in school history.

ESU won the nightcap, 9-3, getting a strong outing on the mound from redshirt sophomore Matt Festa (6.2 IP) and a bases-clearing, two-out double by senior catcher Eric Forth to break the game open in the bottom of the sixth.

Forth was 4-for-6 with a walk and four RBI, Young was 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs and Hercik, senior OF Chris Knott and senior 1B Mike Tenaglia had two hits each for the Warriors.

ESU and Mansfield (16-13, 4-10) will finish the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. in north-central PA.

Game 1 – W 5-4

Lubreski allowed four runs (one earned) in the first but shut down Mansfield the rest of the way to improve to 5-1 on the season and 13-2 in his two years at ESU.

The Warriors cut the margin to 4-2 in the third as Young and Delerme both had RBI singles before ESU left runners on second and third to end the frame.

ESU managed baserunners but no runs in the fourth and fifth, but broke through just in time in the sixth.

Redshirt sophomore 1B Matt Walewski hit a leadoff single and Tenaglia walked after a pitching change. Freshman OF Ian Allen advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt, and Young came through with a base hit to right to score Walewski and junior Nick Espino, who pinch ran for Tenaglia.

Young moved to second on a groundout, and Hercik had the go-ahead RBI, drilling a triple to the gap in left-center.

Hercik was 2-for-3 and was the only Warrior with multiple hits. Mansfield had five hits off Lubreski, including three in the first inning.

Stare got a strikeout and two ground balls to the left side to seal the win.

Game 2 – W 9-3

Mansfield scored a first-inning run when Seth Tressler singled, stole second and scored from second base on a sacrifice fly to right field.

Freshman 3B Ben Bortz gave ESU the lead with a two-out, two-RBI single in the bottom of the second to score Forth and Tenaglia.

The Warriors took a 4-1 lead in the third as Young hit a leadoff double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly by Hercik. Knott hit a two-out single, Delerme walked and Forth had an RBI single to add to the lead.

Mansfield cut it to 4-2 in the fourth, but the Warriors got the run back in the fifth on a two-out RBI double by Tenaglia, then broke it open in the sixth.

Knott's sacrifice fly scored Bortz, then Forth clubbed his three-RBI double to plate Delerme, Hercik and redshirt junior OF Andy Brandstetter.

Festa got 20 of the 21 outs, allowing three runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Freshman Dan Woodley got a strikeout to end it.

Forth was 3-for-3 with a walk and Young was 2-for-3 to lead a nine-hit attack. The Warriors also drew seven walks from four Mansfield pitchers.
