EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University celebrated the academic achievements of its student-athletes with its annual National Student-Athlete Day ceremony, held Thursday afternoon in Koehler Fieldhouse.
The program, assembled by Dr.
Nancy Jo Greenawalt, Academic Coordinator for Athletics, recognized the exceptional work in the classroom by the Warriors' student-athletes, as well as those who have represented ESU at the national level.
The 2013-14 Athletic Director's Honor Roll is comprised of 160 student-athletes who have maintained a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.25 while participating in one of the university's 20 varsity sports.
A total of 16 student-athletes were named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for at least the fourth straight year, including two five-year recipients in
Robert Bleiler (football) and
Brendan McKeown (wrestling).

Theresa Horn,
Kim Lowry and
Katie Thomas (women's track and field/cross country),
Brielle Kessel (field hockey),
Rebecca Smith (field hockey/softball),
Brandon Gattelli and
Bryan Thomson (football),
Khriswayne Wallace (men's soccer),
Kerri McClay and
Katie Metrokotsas (women's soccer) and
Cassie Baun and
Allison Schafer (swimming).
The 13th annual team academic achievement awards went to the men's cross country team, which was recognized for the second straight year and fourth time overall, and the women's soccer team, which received the award for the first time.
Five student-athletes – senior

Brendan McKeown (wrestling) and graduate students
Nemanja Nikolic and
Khriswayne Wallace – were recognized as Capital One Academic All-America selections in the last 12 months.
ESU has three Academic All-America selections (Bleiler, Nikolic and Wallace) and four Academic All-District selections this academic year, including redshirt junior
Bryan Thomson (football).
ESU is second in the PSAC with 66 Academic All-District honorees, and second with 21 PSAC "Top 10" selections, in the last six years.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, including President
Kaitlin Blum (field hockey/softball), Vice President
Rebecca Smith (field hockey/softball), Secretary
Allison Schafer (swimming) and Treasurer
Alexis Good (field hockey), was mentioned for its contributions to ESU and the experience of its student-athletes. Blum was the guest speaker for the afternoon's event.
The "Winning Warrior Award" was presented to ESU president Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D., for her support of the athletic department during her first two years on campus.
More than 30 faculty, administration and staff members received special invitations to the event after being identified by student-athletes for serving as role models, mentors and advisors during their academic careers.
Dr. Greenawalt, President Welsh and Director of Athletics Dr.
Tom Gioglio provided the opening remarks. Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Doreen Tobin was involved in presenting the team and individual awards.
