Game 1 - L 7-6 (8 inn.)
Game 2 - W 1-0 (8 inn.)

BLOOMSBURG – Sophomore Brandon Holup and junior Andrew Furber combined for the shutout and redshirt senior Nico Delerme drove in the game's only run in the top of the eighth inning, leading East Stroudsburg University to a 1-0 victory in the nightcap of a PSAC East doubleheader split at Bloomsburg on Saturday.

ESU (27-14, 13-11) and Bloomsburg (25-15, 17-7) split this weekend's four-game series, 2-2, going into the final weekend of divisional play on April 25-26.

Bloomsburg won the opener, 7-6 (8 inn.), rallying with three runs in the bottom of the seventh before winning it with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth.

ESU also battled back for a split on Friday at Mitterling Field, as Bloomsburg won a 1-0 verdict in game one before the Warriors won 8-3 in the second game.

Delerme's two-out RBI single in the eighth helped ESU improve to 7-1 after losing the first game of a doubleheader this season.

Holup, the PSAC leader in ERA at 1.43, went the first 6.1 innings on the mound before Furber came on with runners on first and second with one out in a scoreless game. He hit the first batter he faced to load the bases, but got a double play to send the game to extra innings.

After ESU went ahead in the top of the eighth, Furber issued a one-out walk but got another double play to end the game.

The 1-0, extra-inning win is ESU's first since a 1-0 (12 inn.) victory over King's in 1976.

ESU, the defending PSAC champion, faces Kutztown (23-16, 11-13) next weekend with the Golden Bears coming off a sweep of Lock Haven. The Warriors are two games ahead of Kutztown and Shippensburg (24-16, 11-13) for the fourth and final playoff spot going into next weekend.

Millersville (29-12, 16-6) is followed by Bloomsburg and West Chester (23-13, 15-9) at the top of the PSAC East standings. Six of the division's eight teams have at least 23 wins.

Game 1 – L 7-6 (8 inn.)

Senior Matt Smith held Bloomsburg to one run in his first 5.0 innings before the Huskies cut ESU's lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Warriors added two insurance runs in the seventh after redshirt sophomore 3B Drew Hercik (4-for-5, 2 RBI, 2 runs) singled, senior OF Chris Knott doubled and Delerme drew an intentional walk to load the bases for senior catcher Eric Forth, who hit a sacrifice fly. Knott scored on a ground ball for a 6-3 lead.

Furber got the Warriors out of the bottom of the sixth and was relieved by senior Keenan Stare, but Bloomsburg opened the inning with four straight hits before freshman left-hander Dan Woodley came on.

Bloomsburg nearly won it in the bottom of the seventh, but redshirt junior OF Andy Brandstetter threw the game-winning run out at the plate after a single to left, and Woodley got an inning-ending strikeout to force extra innings.

ESU loaded the bases with one out in the eighth but Bloomsburg reliever Cody Heane got a double play to end the threat.

In the bottom of the eighth, Brad Smith singled to center, advanced on a sacrifice bunt and a single by Brady West, and scored on a sacrifice fly by leadoff hitter Eric Frain.

Game 2 – W 1-0 (8 inn.)

ESU didn't put a runner in scoring position off Bloomsburg starter Kyle Hunter until the sixth inning, but Holup kept the Huskies off the board as the two starters matched zeroes through six frames.

Holup got a strikeout with the bases loaded to end the fifth, and got out of a second-and-third jam in the sixth. In the seventh, Frain hit a one-out double and Furber relieved Holup after an intentional walk. He hit Damin Muth to load the bases, but got cleanup hitter Tim Ravel to ground into a 6-4-3 double play with the winning run at third base.

In the top of the eighth, freshman OF Ian Allen drew a leadoff walk and redshirt freshman 2B Jay Young reached on a fielders choice which erased Allen. Hercik was hit by a pitch, and after Knott flew out, Delerme singled to right center to bring Young home from second with the game's only run.

Hercik was 4-for-6 on the day and Delerme was 3-for-7 to lead ESU's offense.

Hercik (6-for-14), Knott (6-for-14, 2 walks) and Delerme (6-for-13, 2 walks, 6 RBI) carried the Warriors offensively in the second through fourth spots in the weekend split.

Delerme (.431) and Knott (.413) rank 1-2 in the PSAC in batting average and Delerme leads the PSAC in on-base percentage (.546). Knott leads the league in slugging percentage (.703) and RBI (43) among several other offensive categories, which Delerme second in both with a .638 slugging percentage and 41 RBI.
