EAST STROUDSBURG – Sophomore right-hander Brandon Holup threw a one-hit shutout for his third straight conference win, helping East Stroudsburg University to a doubleheader split with Lock Haven in PSAC East baseball on Sunday at Mitterling Field.

Holup yielded just a two-out double in the third inning for the Warriors (20-11, 6-8), who won the nightcap 5-0 after falling 3-2 in the opener.

Holup (4-1) beat West Chester, 3-1, on Tuesday after posting a 7-2 win over Millersville on March 22. He has thrown three straight complete games and is responsible for three of the Warriors' six divisional wins.

He lowered his ERA to 1.10 in 32.2 innings after allowing just one run on five hits in 14.0 innings this week.

Lock Haven (11-12, 3-7) won game one with a two-out RBI single by Anthony Kyne in the top of the seventh inning. Joe Nestor improved to 3-2 for the Bald Eagles, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits in a complete game on the mound.

ESU split its fifth straight doubleheader this week – going 2-2 against Shippensburg, 1-1 against West Chester and 2-2 against Lock Haven. The Warriors are 5-1 this season after losing the first game of a doubleheader, and have been swept in just five of their 34 twinbills since the start of last season. Holup helped ESU stave off a sweep for the third straight start.

The Warriors hit .301 (31-for-103) for the weekend with a .451 on-base percentage, drawing 27 walks and two hit batters from Lock Haven pitching.

Redshirt senior catcher Nico Delerme had an .800 on-base percentage, going 3-for-6 with a double, RBI, five runs and nine walks. Redshirt sophomore 1B Matt Walewski was 6-for-12 with six RBI and senior catcher Eric Forth was 5-for-10 with six RBI.

Game 1 – L 3-2

Lock Haven scored in the first, fifth and seventh innings – and responded after ESU scored its two runs on Forth's two-out, two-RBI single in the fourth inning.

Senior Matt Smith went 6.2 innings on the mound, yielding three runs (two earned) on seven hits. Ryan Henritzy hit a one-out single in the seventh, stole second and scored on Kyne's two-out single after freshman left-hander Dan Woodley entered in relief.

ESU left a runner on base and had the go-ahead run thrown out at third base in the sixth with a chance to take the lead. Nestor retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh.

Game 2 – W 5-0

Holup struck out three, walked two and faced just three batters over the minimum for his first career shutout, and ESU's first one-hitter since Jeremy Gigliotti threw a no-hitter at Mansfield on May 9, 2011.

A leadoff walk and sacrifice bunt to start the game gave Lock Haven an early runner in scoring position, but Holup got out of it with two flyouts. A two-out double by Henritzy in the third was Lock Haven's only hit – then Holup retired the final 13 batters he faced.

Walewski had an RBI single with the bases loaded and two outs in the first inning to get ESU on the board, then belted a two-out, two-run double in the third to take Holup to a 3-0 lead.

The Warriors added two more runs in the fifth as Knott and Delerme walked to start the inning, Forth had an RBI single and redshirt freshman SS Jay Young had an RBI single with two outs.

ESU had six hits and drew nine walks. Walewski was 2-for-3 with three RBI, and Knott and Delerme both walked three times in the middle of the order.

ESU travels to Le Moyne for a doubleheader on Tuesday, then hosts Mansfield in the first half of a four-game series on Friday at Mitterling Field.
