Football Gazette release (PDF)EAST STROUDSBURG - Redshirt senior defensive tackle
Bryan Thomson was named to the first team and redshirt senior defensive end
Brandon Gattelli and senior punter
Jordan Bair were named to the second team as the 2014 Football Gazette All-Super Region 1 team was released Friday.
Thomson (Keyport, N.J./Keyport) is a three-time Football Gazette All-Region selection, earning spots on the first team as a sophomore (2012) and senior (2014), and landing on the second team as a junior.
Bair (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) was named the second team punter on both All-Region squads released this year, by Football Gazette and Daktronics (sports information directors).
Gattelli (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) earns his first career All-Region honor for the Warriors.
Thomson, a Football Gazette All-America third team selection as a sophomore, had 77 tackles, 11.0 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and six blocked kicks from his spot at nose guard in ESU's 3-3-5 defense.
He was previously named to the Daktronics All-Region second team this fall and was a Daktronics first team selection as a sophomore.
He finished his career with 218 tackles, 32.5 TFL, 21.5 sacks (7th in school history), six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and a school-record 16 blocked kicks in 33 starts.
A three-time first team All-PSAC East selection, Thomson was the 2012 PSAC East Defensive Player of the Year and also earned multiple academic honors. He was named to the Capital One Academic All-America first team, was two-time Academic All-District, was a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's Campbell Trophy and was an AFCA Good Works Team nominee.
Bair was second in the PSAC, second in the region and ninth in Division II in punting average (42.5 average) in his fourth year as a starter for the Warriors. He landed 15 of his 51 punts inside the 20-yard line and had 15 punts of 50+ yards - including at least one 50-yarder in each of the last eight games.
He had a career-long 69-yard punt in the season opener at LIU Post and had a 64-yarder at Gannon in the season finale. His top single-game performance came in a 37-33 win at Shippensburg, averaging 48.8 yards on five punts with three of 50+ yards and two inside the 20-yard line.
Bair was a first team All-PSAC East selection after earning a spot on the second team as a junior in 2013.
Gattelli was named to the All-PSAC East first team, posting 49 tackles, 10.5 TFL and 9.5 sacks. He had multiple sacks in three games in 2014, all ESU victories - 2.0 at LIU Post, 2.0 at Shippensburg and 2.5 vs. Cheyney - and recorded multiple sacks in seven games in his career.
He was a four-year starter and made 40 career starts, becoming the first ESU defensive player with 40+ starts since at least 2003. He had 155 career tackles, 36.0 TFL, 23.5 sacks (5th in school history), five forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.
Gattelli and Thomson were the first ESU defensive linemen to be named first team All-PSAC East in the same season since 2001.
