ESU Basketball Hosts Shippensburg Wednesday Night

EAST STROUDSBURG - Morgan Griffith had 18 points and 17 rebounds, leading Shippensburg to a 76-56 win over East Stroudsburg University in the PSAC East women's basketball opener for both schools on Wednesday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Griffith, a returning first team All-PSAC East selection, had 16 points and 15 rebounds in the first half for Shippensburg (3-0, 1-0). Stephanie Knauer, Victoria Blackburn and Haley Scullion added 10 points each for Ship.

Sophomore guard Imani Brown scored 10 points and junior forward Madison Tamburini had nine points, eight rebounds and five assists for ESU (0-2, 0-1). Tamburini set career-highs in both rebounds and assists.

Junior forward Allison Howard had eight points and five rebounds after scoring 18 points in a 65-55 loss to Bowie State in the season opener on Monday night. Senior guard Melissa Poderis added eight points and senior guard Tyeca Reviere had four points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Shippensburg led 47-25 at halftime with Griffith leading the way.

ESU travels west this weekend with games at IUP on Saturday and Seton Hill on Sunday.

EAST STROUDSBURG - Junior forward Steve Harris had 19 points and 17 rebounds for his first career double-double and junior forward Rasheed Moore added 16 points and nine boards, leading East Stroudsburg University to an 85-61 win over Shippensburg in its PSAC East men's basketball opener on Wednesday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Harris and Moore combined for 15 of ESU's 23 offensive rebounds as the Warriors (3-0, 1-0), the PSAC East preseason favorite, began the pusuit of their fourth straight division title.

Senior guard Jamal Nwaniemeka and redshirt senior guard Will Brown added 11 points each, freshman guard Najee Walls had two points and seven assists and sophomore guard Ryan Krawczeniuk had six points and five assists for ESU.

Dustin Sleva had 17 poitns and seven rebounds and Abe Massaley scored 14 points to pace Shippensburg (2-1, 0-1), picked fifth in the PSAC East preseason poll.

ESU had leads of 23-2 and 29-7 early in the contest, including a 21-0 stretch, before Ship closed the margin to 41-30 at halftime. The Raiders scored the first bucket of the second half, but the Warriors responded with the next nine points and led by at least 14 the rest of the way.

The Warriors had a 51-28 advantage on the glass with Harris pulling down nine offensive rebounds and Moore grabbing six.

ESU travels to IUP, the defending national runner-up, and Seton Hill for a pair of PSAC West crossover games on Saturday and Sunday. Both games count towards the conference standings.
