WEST CHESTER - Defending PSAC women's soccer champion East Stroudsburg University advanced to the PSAC semifinals on penalty kicks, 4-3, after a 0-0 tie at No. 2 seed West Chester on Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jules Harris made two saves on penalty kicks and freshman back Danielle Curran converted the decisive PK for the Warriors (9-6-2), the No. 7 seed.

ESU was the only lower seed to advance on Tuesday. No. 1 seed Gannon won 3-1 vs. Bloomsburg, No. 3 Slippery Rock outlasted Shippensburg 1-0 (2OT) and No. 4 Edinboro edged Kutztown, 1-0.

ESU travels to Gannon for the PSAC semifinals on Friday and will take on Slippery Rock at 11 a.m.. Host Gannon faces Edinboro in the other semifinal at 1:30 p.m. The championship game is Sunday at 1 p.m.

ESU advanced to the PSAC semifinals for the fifth time in nine seasons under head coach Rob Berkowitz, and is in the tournament for the sixth time in his tenure.

Sophomore midfielder Christina Shannon, freshman back Kyra Dubost, sophomore midfielder Sammi Ortiz and Curran converted PK's for ESU.

West Chester made its first two to take a 2-0 lead before Shannon netted her chance. Harris saved WCU's Julia Kirkpatrick and Dubost converted for ESU to make it 2-2 after three rounds.

WCU's Kara Parvel hit the post, but the Warriors didn't capitalize and WCU took a 3-2 edge when Erika Schrock scored on WCU's fifth kick.

Ortiz converted a must-have kick for ESU to make it 3-3, Harris saved WCU's Hannah Grandell and Curran buried her chance to put ESU into the semifinals.

West Chester (14-3-1), the No. 2 seed, held an 11-8 edge in shots for the contest, 8-7 in regulation and 3-1 in the two overtime sessions.

Harris made seven saves for the Warriors, including two key stops in the 16th and 39th minutes of the first half.  Alex Srolis had five saves for West Chester.

ESU improves to 2-1 on penalty kicks in the PSAC Tournament, also advancing from the quarterfinals in 2012 at Gannon (0-0, 5-4) and falling in the semifinals in 2008 vs. IUP (1-1, 8-9).

The Warriors have reached at least the semifinals of the PSAC Tournament for the ninth time in 22 championships and have won PSAC championships in 1994 (inaugural PSAC tournament), 1997 and 2014. ESU is 4-4 in semifinal games and 3-1 in championship games.
