EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior guard Matt Tobin became the 27th 1,000-point scorer in East Stroudsburg University men's basketball history as the Warriors ran away from Cheyney for a 91-73 win in PSAC East men's basketball on Saturday afternoon at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Sophomore forward Rasheed Moore scored 16 points, redshirt senior guard Will Brown had 14 and junior guard Jamal Nwaniemeka and redshirt senior guard Muhamadou Kaba added 11 points each for ESU (16-8, 14-5).

The Warriors led 44-27 at halftime, closing the period on a 28-11 run over the final 10 minutes, and led by as many as 30 points midway through the second half to maintain their lead over Kutztown (16-10, 13-7) in the PSAC East.

Tobin had seven points and five assists, giving him 1,005 points and 518 assists (13th in PSAC history) in his career at ESU.

Tobin is the first ESU player with 1,000 career points and 500 assists and the 11th in PSAC history. He is the first PSAC player to reach those marks since Edinboro's Adam Kaufman in 2001.

Senior guard Whis Grant added seven points and five assists for the Warriors. Grant surpassed Duane Johnson (2009-13) for the most career minutes at ESU in the last 25 years with 3,268 (Johnson played 3,267).

Tobin and Grant (1,795 points - #2 at ESU) are the third set of classmates to score 1,000 points in program history. They join Al Munford (1,285) and Chris Diller (1,073) from 1994-98, and Duane Johnson (1,347) and Terrance King (1,337) from 2009-13.

ESU is 68-17 in the last three years with Tobin and Grant as the starting backcourt.

Tobin entered the weekend as the PSAC leader in assists (6.3 apg) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.6), and ranked second in steals (2.5 spg). He led the conference in all three categories on ESU's PSAC championship team last winter.

ESU held a 23-12 advantage in turnovers and had 16 steals. The Warriors ranked fourth in DII in steals per game (11.3) and fifth in turnover margin (+6.1) entering the weekend.

The victory gives ESU its 10th straight season with 16+ wins, extending the longest current streak in the PSAC. IUP and Mercyhurst both have seven straight years with at least 16 wins, and Slippery Rock has five straight.

ESU also ties a program record (set last year) for the most wins in a four-year span. The Warriors are 88-29 in the last four seasons and were 88-33 in the most recent four-year stretch (2010-11 through 2013-14).

The Warriors, who are looking for their third straight PSAC East regular season title, hold a 1.5 game lead over Kutztown (13-7) in the divisional race and a 2-game lead over West Chester (12-7), which was idle in Saturday.

ESU travels to West Chester for a 7:30 p.m. tip on Wednesday.
