WEST LIBERTY, W.V. - Sophomore Tyler Richardson was the runner-up at 197 pounds and redshirt senior Luke DeLuise placed fourth at 184, both earning trips to the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships on Saturday at the Super Region 1 Tournament at West Liberty University.

Richardson, the No. 1 seed, reached the regional final with a 12-11 decision over No. 4 Garrett Linton (Notre Dame OH) before dropping a 3-2 decision to No. 3 Chris DiLorio (LIU Post).

DeLuise, the No. 4 seed at 184, fell by a 7-2 decision to No. 1 Garrett Lineberger (Notre Dame OH), the defending DII champion, before wrestling back through the consolations to earn his NCAA trip.

DeLuise won a 3-2 decision over No. 7 Ryan Winslow (Wheeling Jesuit) in the consolation semifinal to reach the 3rd/4th place match. He lost a 9-1 major decision to No. 2 Dakota DesLauriers (Mercyhurst) to finish fourth.

The NCAA DII Championships will be held March 13-14 in St. Louis.

Richardson and DeLuise give ESU 14 national qualifiers (from 11 individual wrestlers) in the last six years since reclassifying to DII prior to the 2009-10 season. This is the fifth time the Warriors will send multiple wrestlers to the NCAA's.

Richardson was the eighth Warrior to reach a regional final. ESU has had at least one finalist in each of the last six seasons.

Junior Tyson Searer (285), a DII qualifier at 197 as a freshman in 2013, finished one match short of a second NCAA trip.

Searer, the No. 4 seed, won three straight consolation matches - two on Friday and an injury default over No. 2 Blake Lucas (Ohio Valley) before a 10-3 setback to No. 5 Andrew Welton (Mercyhurst) in the consolation semis. He placed sixth, taking an injury default against James Louison (LIU Post) in the 5th/6th match.

Searer, a three-time regional placewinner, finishes the season with a 24-9 record and 59-30 career mark through three years.

DeLuise is a regional placewinner for the second time, finishing sixth at 184 in 2013. His win over Winslow was the 50th of his career in three seasons at ESU.

Richardson, ESU's starter at 285 (4-11 overall) as a freshman last year, continued his remarkable run through the 197-pound weight class in Super Region 1.

He entered the regional with an 8-1 in-region record, then won his first three bouts in the regional. He had a pair of first-period pins to reach the semis on Friday. He sports an 11-2 in-region record and 11-3 DII record this year (18-8 overall).
