EAST STROUDSBURG - Dylan Edgar had 21 points, all in the second half, and Shippensburg rallied from a 16-point second-half deficit for a 72-71 win over East Stroudsburg University in PSAC East men's basketball on Wednesday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Sophomore forward Rasheed Moore scored 19 points, senior guard Whis Grant scored 13 and junior guard Jamal Nwaniemeka had 11 for ESU (14-7, 12-5), which led 47-31 with 17:30 remaining before Shippensburg (12-8, 8-8) got back in the game with a 14-0 run.

Edgar scored 21 of Ship's 45 points in the second half and grabbed eight rebounds, and freshman Justin McCarthur had 19 points (11 in the second half), seven rebounds and eight assists.

ESU had a 23-6 advantage in turnovers, but Ship held a 42-26 edge on the boards.

After Shippensburg rallied to tie the game at 53-53 with 10:16 remaining, the Warriors kept the Raiders from going in front until the final three minutes.

ESU led 68-61 on a layup by senior guard Matt Tobin with 5:26 remaining, but Ship scored the next 11 points to take a 72-68 lead in the last 10 seconds. McCarthur's three-pointer with 2:15 to play gave Ship its first lead (70-68) since early in the first half, and the Warriors got two defensive stops but couldn't score at the other end.

McCarthur made two free throws with 8.7 seconds left to give Ship a 72-68 lead. Nwaniemeka rattled in a three that cut it to one with 0.9 seconds left and Moore stole the inbounds pass near midcourt, but the Warriors couldn't get a shot away.

Tobin had six points, four steals and six assists, giving him exactly 500 in his career. He is the 16th PSAC player with 500 assists. He set ESU's career record on January 21 in a win over Mansfield.

ESU led 40-27 at halftime on a three by senior forward Lamont Tillery (nine points) in the closing seconds, and pushed the lead to 16 in the first few possessions of the second half before Ship came back.

ESU, which has lost consecutive games following a 61-58 loss at Millersville on Saturday, holds a one-game lead in the PSAC East standings over Kutztown (14-9, 11-6) and a two-game lead over West Chester (12-11, 10-7).

The Warriors had won 17 straight games against PSAC East schools. They fall to 24-4 in countable PSAC games in the last three years.

ESU travels to Bloomsburg (9-11, 5-11) on Saturday and posted a 99-79 win over the Huskies on December 6 at Koehler Fieldhouse, closing the game on a 22-7 run.
