BLOOMSBURG - East Stroudsburg University scored the first 16 points and opened a 30-point lead less than 12 minutes into the contest, surging to an 89-61 win at Bloomsburg in PSAC East men's basketball on Saturday afternoon at Nelson Field House.

The Warriors (15-7, 13-5) maintain a one-game lead in the PSAC East and broke a two-game losing streak by scoring 14 points before Bloomsburg (9-12, 5-12) attempted a shot from the field.

ESU made 10 three-pointers in the first half - six in the first six minutes - and 14 in the game to put the Huskies away early.

Junior guard Jamal Nwaniemeka (20 points) and senior guard Matt Tobin (14 points, 9 assists) both hit two three-pointers in the first two minutes and Bloomsburg turned the ball over on its first five possessions. ESU held a 25-15 advantage in turnovers.

Senior guard Whis Grant (13 points) moved into second in school history with 1,783 career points, surpassing Don Bones (1,775 - 1976-81).

Senior forward Lamont Tillery added 12 points, freshman guard Jakwan Jones scored eight and redshirt senior guard Will Brown had seven points, four rebounds and three assists for the Warriors.

Christian Mortellite scored 14 points and Alssene Saintilus had five points and 16 rebounds to pace Bloomsburg's statistical leaders.

ESU opened leads of 16-0, 39-11 and 51-16 before holding a 51-24 advantage at halftime. The Warriors' previous two losses came by a total of four points - 61-58 at Millersville on Jan. 31, and 72-71 vs. Shippensburg on Wednesday.

Bloomsburg scored the first six points on the second half - culminating a 14-0 run spanning intermission for the Huskies to pull within 51-30 - before the Warriors scored the next 16 points.

Grant hit a three in the middle of the run, coming with 13:35 remaining, to break a tie for second on the Warriors' career scoring list.

Grant will finish his career in the No. 2 spot behind Jonathan Roberts, who scored 2,218 points from 1986-90. Roberts (1988-90), Bones (1980-81) and Grant (2013-14) are the only multiple-time All-Americans in program history.

Tobin has 990 career points and 509 assists, hitting the 500-assist mark on Wednesday against Shippensburg. He is the 16th player in PSAC history with 500 career assists, and can become the 11th on that list with 1,000 career points.

ESU travels to Southern Connecticut State (17-5) for a non-conference game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. SCSU was ranked No. 2 in the NABC DII preseason poll, with ESU ranked No. 4. The Owls were the NCAA DII East Region champion and advanced to the Elite Eight last March, while ESU's historic 30-2 season ended in the Atlantic Region final with an 89-82 loss to eventual national runner-up West Liberty.
