Christina O'Connor earned her third career All-America honor in the women's high jump, placing sixth at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Birmingham.
O'Connor cleared 5-8 on her second attempt before bowing out on three attempts at 5-9 1/4. She was clean on her first attempts at 5-4 1/4 and 5-6.
Erika Kinsey, a freshman from Central Missouri who had the DII-leading mark (6-2 3/4) entering the NCAA's, won the national title at 5-10.
O'Connor is the fourth ESU women's track and field athlete to earn at least three career All-America honors, joining high jumper Lynn Mayer (6), high jumper and current assistant coach Karen Way Gaita (4) and mid-distance runner Jan Blake Hoffman (3).
She was also sixth (5-8) at the 2013 DII Indoor Championships as a sophomore, and was fifth (5-8) at the 2014 Outdoor Championships last spring. O'Connor qualified for the indoor championships in each of her last three seasons.
O'Connor was tied for third on the national list at 5-10, tied for the PSAC record, which she cleared to win her fourth career PSAC championship on March 1. That mark broke the school record of 5-9 1/4 held by Gaita (1991) and Mayer (2011).
O'Connor was named the USTFCCCA DII Atlantic Region Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year two weeks ago, and Gaita was named the Women's Assistant Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
She has been an NCAA provisional qualifier in six of her seven seasons of competition entering the 2015 outdoor season.
O'Connor is one of six women's high jumpers to compete at the NCAA Championships for ESU, and is one of five who have combined for 15 All-America honors.
