BEL AIR, Md. - Junior first baseman Dylan Tamecki hit two home runs in the nightcap, including a grand slam followed by the go-ahead solo shot in the top of the sixth inning, as East Stroudsburg University won both ends of Monday's doubleheader with Kutztown (11-6, 6-5) to post a 3-1 series win in PSAC East baseball.

Sophomore Tyler Eckman had the save in both games, tying ESU's single-season record with seven saves just 14 games into the season, as the Warriors improved to 12-2 and gained a key series win on the opening weekend of conference action. ESU's 12 wins through 14 games are its most in program history.

Eckman tied the school record of seven saves set by Rich Wescoe in 1974.

The Warriors split Sunday's opening doubleheader, winning 11-1 behind 5.0 shutout innings from redshirt junior Matt Festa, before falling 10-0 in the nightcap.

ESU improves to 12-8 in the last five years against Kutztown, the defending PSAC champion, after going 3-42 against the Golden Bears from 2001-10.

ESU hit five home runs on Monday after hitting two in the first 12 games of the season. Three came in the 11-6 win in the opener - from redshirt sophomore 3B Jay Young, sophomore outfielder Ian Allen and redshirt junior SS Drew Hercik.

Tamecki was 3-for-4 with two homers and five RBI in the nightcap, driving in five of ESU's six runs.

Tamecki hit .538 (7-for-13) with five RBI and five runs in the series, his first PSAC East action after transferring to ESU from Northampton CC.

Freshman 2B Aden Tully was 5-for-12 (.417) with two RBI and three runs in his first conference action, and Young was 7-for-17 (.412) with three doubles, a triple, a home run, five RBI and three runs in the leadoff spot.

ESU hit .371 (46-for-124) with a .418 on-base percentage and .589 slugging percentage, scoring 28 runs in the four-game series. Nine Warriors playing in their first career PSAC East series hit .378 (31-for-82) with six doubles, two home runs, 16 RBI and 18 runs.

On the mound, 11 ESU pitchers combined for 37 strikeouts in 28.0 innings.

Brief game recaps are below:

Sunday (game 1) - W 11-1

Festa improved to 3-0 in four starts this season and 8-1 in his two-year career at ESU, holding Kutztown without a run on five hits and striking out six without a walk in 5.0 innings.

ESU had 14 hits and scored in each of the first five innings, including a five-run fourth. Young, Allen, Tully, redshirt sophomore SS Conner Crookham and freshman OF Christian Rishel had two hits each.

Sunday (game 2) - L 10-0

Kutztown's Paul Piromalli threw 6.0 innings, allowing four hits, as KU avoided the sweep on Sunday evening.

Senior Andrew Furber threw 4.2 innings in relief (1 run, 2 hits, 6 strikeouts, 1 walk) for ESU.

Monday (game 1) - W 11-6

ESU led 2-0 after three innings, before the two teams combined for 15 runs in the final four frames.

The Warriors never trailed but led just 7-6 before a four-run seventh inning.

Seven of ESU's nine starters had two hits, and all nine had at least one hit, to put away Kutztown. Freshman catcher Steven Zimmerman, Jr. was 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

Zimmerman belted a bases-clearing double to spark the seventh inning.

Young hit a two-run homer in the third to put ESU on the board, and Hercik hit a leadoff homer before Young had an RBI double in the fourth.

Allen, the starting pitcher (5.0 IP, 6 runs), helped his own cause with a solo homer to start the fifth. Zimmerman had a leadoff double in the sixth, scored on a sacrifice fly Young, and redshirt sophomore OF Casey Saverio added an RBI single to plate Tully.

Kutztown scored three in the bottom of the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-6. Eckman came on to get out of a big jam after KU scored twice and had a runner on third with nobody out.

KU had a leadoff baserunner on an error in the seventh, but Eckman closed the door.

Monday (game 2) - W 6-5

Tamecki provided the key blows and ESU had 12 hits to take the series, 3-1.

ESU's bullpen put together 4.0 innings, allowing just one run, with freshman Joe Cominsky (1.1 IP, 1 run), Crookham (1.2 IP, 0 runs, 3 strikeouts in first career appearance) and Eckman (1.0 IP, save) shutting down the Golden Bears.

Eckman allowed a one-out double and issued a pair of two-out walks before getting leadoff hitter Ben Eppley to ground out to first to close the game in the seventh.

ESU scored in the second as Rishel doubled and freshman catcher Mike Sulcoski hit a two-out RBI double.

Tamecki made it 5-0 in the third with his grand slam after Young singled, Saverio walked and Allen singled to load the bases with nobody out.

Kutztown got four runs back to make it 5-4 through three innings.

The Golden Bears tied it at 5-5 in the fifth and had the bases loaded with one out, before Crookham came on to get a pair of strikeouts and end the threat.

Tamecki gave ESU the lead for good with a solo homer with one out in the sixth.

Eppley and Brady McNabb had back-to-back singles to give KU runners on first and third with nobody out in the bottom half, but Crookham bared down. He struck out All-Region outfielder Brandon Martinez, then got a double play to get out of the inning when Brandon Hickey flew out to center and Saverio cut down Eppley trying to move to third.
