EPHRATA - Freshman Joe Cominsky and junior Joe DiGiovanni put together 5.0 innings of one-run relief as East Stroudsburg University posted an 11-5 in the nightcap to earn a doubleheader split against Millersville in PSAC East baseball on Sunday at Ephrata High School.

ESU (13-3, 4-2), coming off a 3-1 series win over Kutztown last weekend, and Millersville (14-6, 3-3) will finish the four-game series on Monday beginning at 10 a.m.

Millersville won the opener, 4-3, rallying with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. ESU knocked out Millersville All-America pitcher Chris Murphy (26-4 career record in 34 starts) after 5.0 innings, scoring three runs in the top of the third, before the Marauders came back.

ESU scored 11 runs on 12 hits, seven walks and two HBP in the second game. The Warriors had five hits and drew five walks in the opener.

In game two, Cominsky earned the win with 2.0 innings in relief, entering with nobody out in the third inning to get the Warriors out of a jam.

DiGiovanni got his first career save with 3.0 shutout innings, coming in to protect an 11-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth and shutting the door. He struck out five, didn't issue a walk and allowed just two hits.

Game 1 - L 4-3

Redshirt junior Matt Festa blanked Millersville through 5.0 innings, but the Marauders loaded the bases with three singles to start the sixth, leading to a four-run inning.

Festa was charged with four runs on nine hits, struck out four and walked two in 5.1 innings for his first loss of the season (3-1). He is 8-2 in 14 career starts for the Warriors.

Murphy, who set Millersville's career wins record in his last start, went 5.0 innings, allowing three runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and four walks.

ESU struck for three runs in the top of the third as freshman C Steven Zimmerman, Jr. and junior 2B Nick Rabasco drew walks to open the inning. Redshirt sophomore 3B Jay Young hit an RBI single, stole second, and Rabasco scored on a passed ball for a 2-0 lead. Junior 1B Dylan Tamecki followed with an RBI single to put the Warriors in front, 3-0.

Millersville scored four runs on five hits in the sixth, including a fly ball that was lost in the sun which loaded the bases. Chas McCormick came through with a two-out RBI single for the go-ahead run.

Young and redshirt sophomore OF Casey Saverio were both 2-for-4 at the top of the order for ESU.

Game 2 - W 11-5

ESU broke the game open with a five-run third inning, and Cominsky and DiGiovanni starred in relief for the Warriors.

Four players had multiple hits in Young (2-for-5, 4 RBI), Tamecki (2-for-5, run), redshirt junior SS Drew Hercik (2-for-3, walk, 3 runs) and freshman 2B Aden Tully (2-for-3, walk, 3 RBI, run).

Saverio was 1-for-3 with two walks, and sophomore OF Ian Allen was 1-for-3 with a walk, RBI and three runs.

ESU led 2-1 after the second inning, 7-4 after the third and 10-5 after the fourth, stretching its lead each frame.

In the second, ESU loaded the bases on an Allen HBP, Hercik single and a walk by sophomore OF Ben Bortz. Tully had an RBI single, and Young plated a run with an RBI groundout.

ESU's five runs in the third came on three hits and three walks. Tamecki hit a leadoff double, Tully drew a bases loaded walk and Young had a two-RBI single to highlight the inning.

In the fourth, Allen singled and Hercik walked with one out, Bortz plated a run with a sacrifice fly and Tully and Young both had RBI singles.

The Warriors added an insurance run in the fifth as redshirt junior 1B Matt Walewski hit a leadoff double and scored on a groundout by Allen.

Young was 4-for-9 in the doubleheader and leads ESU's regulars with a .453 average (24-for-53) with 18 RBI and 10 runs through the first 16 games.
