EAST STROUDSBURG - Matt Petrizzi hit two home runs in game one and threw a three-hitter in game two, leading West Chester to a pair of wins over East Stroudsburg University in PSAC East baseball on Sunday afternoon at Mitterling Field.

ESU (24-16, 10-14) nearly rallied from a 10-5 deficit in the final half-inning in a 10-8 loss in the opener. West Chester (22-8, 17-5) won the nightcap, 4-1.

Redshirt sophomore 3B Jay Young was 3-for-5 with four RBI in game one, including a three-RBI single in the seventh inning. The Warriors got the winning run on base before WCU got out of the jam.

Petrizzi was 5-for-6 at the plate in the doubleheader for West Chester, which had 10 hits in both games.

West Chester won all four games this weekend, taking the first two games on Saturday, 4-3 and 10-5.

ESU enters the final weekend of the regular season tied with Bloomsburg (12-18, 10-14) for the fourth and final playoff spot in the PSAC East. Mansfield (10-20, 7-13) is three games back in the win column but has four games to make up due to weather.

ESU faces Bloomsburg this weekend with a potential playoff spot on the line. The Warriors are at Bloomsburg Friday before hosting the Huskies on Saturday.

ESU hosts Mercy College in a non-conference game on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

GAME 1 - L 10-8

ESU came back from a 5-2 deficit with a three-run fifth, but couldn't do it again in the seventh inning.

West Chester scored three runs before the Warriors recorded their first out, as Dylan Tice hit a two-run homer and Petrizzi had a solo homer in the first inning.

The Warriors closed the margin to 4-2 with two runs in the bottom of the second, getting RBI singles from freshman 2B Aden Tully and Young before leaving the bases loaded.

ESU tied the game at 5-5 with three runs in the fifth on two hits, a walk, two hit batters and a balk.

WCU came back with a four-run sixth, including a three-run homer by Petrizzi, and added another run in the seventh to lead 10-5.

In the bottom of the seventh, redshirt junior OF Matt Walewski had a leadoff single, junior Brett Bonn had a pinch-hit single with one out and freshman catcher Steven Zimmerman, Jr. was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Young belted a two-out, bases-clearing single to the gap in right-center to keep the Warriors alive and make it 10-8, and sophomore OF Casey Saverio singled off reliever Eric Close before the side was retired.

Young was 3-for-5 with four RBI and Saverio was 2-for-2 with three walks to reach in all five plate appearances in the first two spots in the ESU lineup.

GAME 2 - L 4-1
 
ESU scored its only run with an RBI groundout by Young in the third inning, cutting the West Chester lead to 2-1, before WCU scored twice in the top of the fourth to set the final margin.

Petrizzi improved to 4-2 with eight strikeouts, one walk and three hits allowed.

Senior Andrew Furber allowed four runs (three earned), struck out five, walked three and gave up seven hits in 4.0 innings.

Sophomore Tyler Eckman threw three scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out four.

West Chester took a 1-0 lead in the first and made it 2-0 in the third.

In the bottom of the third, Zimmerman singled and junior 2B Nick Rabasco was hit by a pitch to start the inning. They advanced on a balk and Zimmerman scored on Young's groundout to short, but the Warriors couldn't push another run across.

Young had a leadoff double in the sixth for ESU's final hit.

Young was 5-for-16 for the weekend and is hitting .428 on the season. Walewski was 4-for-10 against WCU and is batting .386.
