EAST STROUDSBURG - Freshman outfielder Christian Rishel hit a grand slam in the opener and sophomore Tyler Eckman set East Stroudsburg University's single-season saves record as the Warriors swept a non-conference baseball doubleheader vs. USciences, 9-7 and 7-1, on Thursday at Mitterling Field.

Eckman notched his eighth save of the season in game one, breaking the record of seven set by Rich Wescoe in 1974.

ESU (17-7) is scheduled to face Lock Haven in two PSAC East doubleheaders this weekend, Friday at Lock Haven and Saturday at ESU.

Eckman has appeared in 11 games in relief this season, posting a 2.40 ERA, 15 strikeouts, four walks and 17 hits allowed in 15.0 innings. His eight career saves are just three from ESU's career record held by Keenan Stare (2011-14).

Redshirt sophomore SS Conner Crookham was 4-for-6 with a home run, four RBI and three runs in the doubleheader and junior 1B Dylan Tamecki went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs.

Rishel's grand slam, his first career homer, gave the Warriors a 9-6 through five innings in the opener.

ESU led 2-0 after Crookham's homer in the fourth before USciences (2-15) plated six runs in the top of the fifth.

The Warriors responded with a seven-run inning, capped by Rishel's blast.

ESU had 22 hits in the doubleheader, including 15 in the nightcap. Redshirt sophomore OF Jay Young and Crookham had three hits each at the top of the lineup.

Redshirt sophomore left-hander Marty Martens earned the win with 4.0 shutout innings, allowing just one hit.

Game 1

Redshirt junior Cody Klinger didn't allow a hit until there was one out in the fifth inning, but USciences pushed six runs across in the inning before the Warriors responded in the bottom half.

Crookham's two-run homer followed a Tamecki two-out double in the fourth.

After UScience's big inning, redshirt junior 3B Drew Hercik led off the fifth with a triple. ESU's only other hit in the inning was Rishel's grand slam, but the Warriors drew three walks, one HBP and reached on a wild pitch after a strikeout to cobble together seven runs in the inning.

Junior John Armbrust pitched a scoreless sixth, and Eckman allowed one run on three hits and struck out two in the seventh to etch his record-setting save.

Junior Joe DiGiovanni was the last of three ESU pitchers to work the fifth inning and gained the win.

Seven Warriors had one hit each. Crookham drew a bases loaded walk in the fifth to finish with three RBI.

Game 2

ESU scored one run in the first, two in the second and two in the third while Martens blanked USciences on the mound.

The Warriors had five runs before the Devils had their first hit, an infield single with one out in the fourth.

Young singled and scored on a base hit by redshirt junior DH Matt Walewski in the first inning.

In the second, freshman catcher Steven Zimmerman, Jr. tripled and scored on a single by junior 2B Nick Rabasco. Crookham had an RBI single after Rabasco stole second base.

Tamecki hit a leadoff double and scored on a triple by sophomore OF Ian Allen in the third. Allen later scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-0.

ESU added two more runs in the sixth as Young, Crookham and Walewski (RBI) all had singles to open the inning. Tamecki lofted a sacrifice fly to plate Crookham.

Freshman Derrick Jackson worked the fifth and sixth innings, allowing one run. Freshman Austin Bashore pitched a scoreless seventh.

Young (3-for-3, 2 runs), Crookham (3-for-4, RBI, run), Walewski (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Tamecki (2-for-3, RBI, run) combined to go 10-for-14 at the top of the order.
