ESU Men’s Basketball Rolls Past Slippery Rock, 98-72

SLIPPERY ROCK - Freshman guard Najee Walls had 15 points and seven assists and junior forward Rasheed Moore scored 14 points, leading East Stroudsburg University to a 98-72 win at Slippery Rock in PSAC men's basketball on Wednesday night.

ESU (10-3, 6-3), the PSAC's top scoring team with 88.4 points per game entering the night, rallied from slow starts to each half to earn its fourth straight win.

Slippery Rock (8-7, 3-6) led 13-2 early before the Warriors responded and led 52-36 at halftime. In the second half, SRU opened with a 12-2 run to pull within 54-48 - then ESU outscored the Rock 44-24 over the final 16 minutes.

Walls, second in the PSAC with 5.7 assists per game, had seven assists with just one turnover and tied his season-high with 15 points, shooting 6-for-9 from the field.

Moore had 14 points and six rebounds, giving him 992 career points entering Saturday's PSAC East  match-up at No. 22-ranked West Chester (12-1, 8-1), which won 81-67 at California (Pa.) on Wednesday.

Eight Warriors scored at least seven points with redshirt senior guard Will Brown scoring 11, redshirt junior guard Quindell Brice 10, sophomore guard Ryan Krawczeniuk nine (3-for-3 from three-point line), senior guard Jamal Nwaniemeka eight, redshirt freshman forward Chris Bing eight and junior forward Sultan Aminu seven.

ESU shot 48.5 percent (33-for-68) from the field after leading the PSAC at 50.1 percent entering the week. The Warriors were 9-for-25 from long distance.

Slippery Rock shot 38.3 percent (21-for-55) and had a 10-minute stretch without a field goal in the second half.

Malcolm Richardson, a two-year letterwinner at ESU in 2013 and 2014, had 24 points and 12 rebounds to lead Slippery Rock. Chaquille Pratt scored 15 and Juwan Strothers had 10.

ESU dominated the turnover battle, 23-9, and had a 24-10 advantage in points off turnovers.
