WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Tyler Rapposelli scored with six minutes left in double overtime to help West Chester rally for a 2-1 home victory over East Stroudsburg University on Tuesday afternoon.
The Warriors (5-6-1, 3-4-1 PSAC) held the Golden Rams (8-3-2, 5-1-1 PSAC) without a shot for over 45 minutes midway through the contest, and freshman
Irvin Zuzic gave ESU a 1-0 lead in the 43rd minute with his fourth goal of the season. West Chester, though, broke its shot-less streak in the 58th minute and Giovanni Mowrey equalized for the home side with 23:27 left in regulation.
Shots for the contest were 16-12 in favor of the Warriors, with each team managing seven attempts on goal.
ESU had six of the game's nine shots in the opening half, and Zuzic headed in a cross from junior
Shaquille Stephenson to open up the scoring. Zuzic now has points in five of his last six appearances, totaling four goals and two assists during that span, while Stephenson picked up both his first point of the season and his first collegiate assist.
Both sides had opportunities to win in the closing minutes of the second half. West Chester's Brett Glasco had a shot stopped by sophomore goalie
Will Boerema in the 86th minute, and Zuzic forced a save out of goalie James Wood with 23 seconds left on the clock.
The Warriors held a 3-2 shot advantage in overtime prior to Rapposelli's game-winner. Junior
Christian Bukowski led both sides with seven shots overall in the game.
Today's defeat snapped a seven-game unbeaten streak for ESU at West Chester dating back to 2003, with the Warriors managing a 6-0-1 record during that stretch.
The Golden Rams move to 4-1-1 in their past six contests and extend their current winning streak to three games.
After three-straight road dates, ESU returns to Eiler-Martin Stadium for a 2:30 p.m. PSAC contest against Seton Hill on Saturday.
Note: ESU's 2000 men's soccer team, which won the PSAC championship and advanced to the NCAA Division II semifinals, will be inducted into the ESU Hall of Fame on Saturday morning and recognized at halftime of the Seton Hill contest.
