Box Score
ERIE - Hamza Mourchid scored with 2:06 remaining in the second overtime, giving No. 24-ranked Gannon a 1-0 (2OT) win and eliminating East Stroudsburg University from PSAC men's soccer tournament contention late Saturday night.
ESU (7-8-1, 5-5-1) entered the night needing a win to advance to the PSAC Tournament for the first time since 2010. ESU at Gannon was the final game of the PSAC's regular season.
A tie would have forced a tie for the sixth and final spot in the postseason with Millersville, but the Warriors would have dropped that tiebreaker on goal differential vs. PSAC teams - Millersville +8 and ESU +4. ESU and Millersville tied, 3-3, on September 13 at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
Hamza's 22nd goal of the season, tied for second in NCAA Division II this fall, gives Gannon (11-5-1, 7-3-1) the No. 3 seed in next week's PSAC Tournament.
ESU would have gained the No. 4 seed with a win, forcing a three-way tie with Gannon and California.
The Warriors are also denied their first season at or above .500 since 2010, also finishing 7-8-1 last fall, as they had to push for the game-winner.
Gannon held a 14-10 advantage in shots, leading 6-1 in the first half before ESU had an 8-5 edge in the second half. Gannon had three of the four shots in overtime.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Will Boerema had four saves for ESU. Jorge Hernandez made three saves for Gannon, including a stop four minutes into the second overtime on a shot by freshman forward
Irvin Zuzic.
Junior midfielder
Christian Bukowski finishes the season as ESU's top scorer with nine goals and four assists, followed by sophomore forward
Brandon Levano (5 goals, 3 assists in 10 games/8 starts), Zuzic (5 goals, 2 assists), senior midfielder
Andrew McGinley (3 goals, 5 assists) and freshman midfielder
Marcus Torgersson (3 goals, 3 assists).
ESU, which has won 19 PSAC championships (second-most in conference history), last qualified for the PSAC Tournament in 2010 when the Warriors were conference runner-up, falling to Shippensburg on penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie.
