Healy Ties ESU Single-Season Rushing Record in 41-14 Loss vs. West Chester

EAST STROUDSBURG - Redshirt senior tailback Robert Healy tied East Stroudsburg University's single-season rushing record in Saturday's 41-14 loss to West Chester in PSAC East football at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Healy ran for 57 yards on eight carries in the first half to equal the single-season rushing mark of 1,160 yards set by Andre Castiglioni in 2000.

ESU's all-time leader in rushing yards (3,990) and yards from scrimmage (5,905), Healy left the game due to injury on the final play of the second quarter and did not return.

ESU (4-5, 2-4) trailed 13-7 at halftime, but saw West Chester (6-3, 5-1) score on its first possession of the third quarter and add 21 fourth-quarter points to pull away.

Jarel Elder (17 carries, 118 yards, 2 TD) and Eerin Young (13 carries, 110 yards, TD) led a West Chester offense that gained 482 yards, including 386 on the ground.

ESU redshirt junior quarterback Tim DiGiorgio, making his second start after debuting in last week's 35-14 loss at Bloomsburg, was 21-for-37 for 292 yards, a touchdown and an interception for ESU.

Junior wide receiver Tim Wilson had six catches for a career-high 111 yards, freshman wide receiver Elijah Rehm had five catches for 53 yards (both career-highs) and freshman wide receiver Javier Buffalo had two catches for a career-high 88 yards, including a 46-yard TD from DiGiorgio in the fourth quarter.

Healy added two catches for eight yards for 65 yards from scrimmage in the first half for the Warriors. He ended a streak of 12 straight games with 100+ yards from scrimmage, and extended a streak with his 32nd straight game with a reception, tied for third-longest in school history.

Healy entered the week ranked second in NCAA Division II in yards from scrimmage (186.0 ypg), eighth in rushing (137.9 ypg), tied for second in rushing TD (17) and tied for third in total TD (18).

He extended his ESU single-season rushing TD record to 18 on the first drive of the game, tying Toby Barkman (1960-63) for second on the Warriors' career list (32).

Healy capped a six play, 75-yard drive with DiGiorgio going 4-for-5 for 62 yards, including a 42-yarder to Buffalo, before Healy scored from 13 yards for a 7-0 lead just 1:56 into the game.

West Chester answered with an 11 play, 72-yard drive, finishing with a 12-yard TD run by Elder, to make it 7-7 at the 8:11 mark of the first quarter.

The Warriors and Golden Rams traded punts on the game's next eight possessions, before WCU broke the gridlock with a 12 play, 78-yard drive late in the second quarter - taking a 13-7 lead on an eight-yard TD pass from Pat Moriarty to Tyler Karpinski with 10 seconds left in the half. Brendan Paulison's extra point hit the upright and was no good.

WCU received the second-half kickoff and drove 69 yards in nine plays, setting up a six-yard TD run by Mike Class (7 carries, 34 yards) to lead 20-7.

Elder scored on a two-yard run to make it 27-7 with 11:43 left in the fourth quarter, before DiGiorgio hit Buffalo for a 46-yard TD to get the Warriors within 27-14 at the 10:12 mark.

The Golden Rams extended their margin with a five-yard run by Young, completing a six play, 65-yard drive, and got a 28-yard interception return for a TD by Nydair Rouse for 14 points in a  12-second span to go ahead 41-14 with 6:42 remaining.

Moriarty was 10-for-28 for 94 yards and a TD and carried five times for 52 yards for West Chester, which picked up 9-for-16 third-down conversions and 2-of-3 fourth-down chances.

ESU gained 323 yards, 292 passing and 31 rushing, against a West Chester defense that entered ranked second in the PSAC in total defense (295.6 ypg). The Golden Rams had allowed just 216.7 yards per game in their previous three contests, wins vs. Shippensburg, Bloomsburg and Cheyney.

Redshirt junior linebacker Mike Wiand had a career-high 13 tackles to lead the ESU defense.

The Warriors host Lock Haven (3-6, 3-3) next Saturday at 1:05 p.m. in their final home game at Eiler-Martin Stadium. LHU posted a 26-18 win vs. Bloomsburg on Saturday.
