RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Corey Telfer and Charlie Macaskill scored less than four minutes apart in the first half, and Felician withstood a second-half onslaught from East Stroudsburg University to hold on for a 2-1 victory on Wednesday evening.
The two goals for the Golden Falcons (3-6-2) came in the 32nd and 36th minutes. Sophomore forward
Brandon Levano pulled one back for the Warriors (5-4-1) with under seven minutes remaining in the first half, but ESU could not find an equalizer despite a 13-2 shot advantage after the intermission.
Tonight's setback ends a four-game winning streak for the Warriors, their longest since winning five in a row to begin the 2015 season. Felician has now won three of four contests after starting the year 0-5-2.
Levano's goal was his fifth of the season and ninth of his collegiate career. He took a pass from junior midfielder
Christian Bukowski, dribbled down the left side, and fired a line drive shot past goalie John Burns into the top right corner. Levano pulled within one goal of Bukowski for the team lead.
Bukowski earned his team-leading fourth assist of the season, and he now has 15 career helpers as a Warrior. The assist also gives him points in seven of 10 games in 2016.
Five of ESU's 13 second-half shots were on target, while the Golden Falcons managed only one shot on goal in the final 55 minutes.
The Warriors last attempt came on a free kick by senior midfielder
Andrew McGinley in the 88th minute. McGinley drove a curling shot over the wall of defenders, but Burns made a diving save to his left to preserve the win.
McGinley had a team-high five shots for the visitors, who led 18-7 in that category overall, while freshman back
Oscar Kristensson added four.
ESU had a 6-0 series edge over Felician heading into tonight, including victories in each of the last three seasons.
The Warriors return to PSAC competition on Saturday, traveling to Slippery Rock for a 3:30 p.m. matchup. ESU is 3-2-1 in conference games this season, with a 2-0-1 mark in its past three contests.
