MILLERSVILLE - Redshirt senior tailback
Robert Healy gained 208 yards from scrimmage and scored four touchdowns, and redshirt senior quarterback
Bruce Campbell added 330 yards of total offense, a pass TD and a rush TD, to lead East Stroudsburg University to a 38-23 win at Millersville in PSAC East football on Saturday at Biemesderfer Stadium.
Healy ran for 163 yards and three touchdowns, setting a school record with his 15th career 100-yard rushing game, and added five catches for 45 yards and a TD, and Campbell was 10-for-19 for 242 yards and a TD passing and had eight carries for 88 yards and a score.
ESU head coach
Denny Douds moved into a tie for 8th on the NCAA all-division list for games coached (446), and a tie for 4th on the list of games coached at one school, with Roy Kidd of Eastern Kentucky. John Gagliardi of St. John's (Minn.) (607), Eddie Robinson of Grambling (588) and Joe Paterno of Penn State (548) are the only college football coaches to coach more games than Douds.
Campbell hit four long pass plays - two to junior wide receiver
Tim Wilson (2 catches, 105 yards) - while freshman wide receiver
Javier Buffalo had a catch for 48 yards and redshirt senior tight end
Anthony Castillo had a catch for 34 yards for the Warriors.
ESU converted 11-of-16 third down opportunities. Redshirt sophomore punter
Sam O'Brien twice pinned Millersville inside its own five-yard line, and sophomore kicker
Nicolas Ruiz made a 20-yard field goal and all five of his extra points.
ESU's defense sacked Millersville redshirt freshman Tony Staffieri seven times and intercepted him twice inside the 25-yard line. Staffieri was otherwise impressive in his first career start, accounting for 408 yards of total offense, going 13-for-36 for 246 yards and three TD, and rushing 26 times for 162 yards.
Junior receiver Kevin Wiggins had five catches for 144 yards and all three of Staffieri's TD receptions.
ESU led 24-13 at halftime, building a 24-6 lead before the Marauders scored with seven seconds left in the first half.
Millersville cut the ESU lead to 31-23 midway through the third quarter - getting a 29-yard field goal by Evan Stahl and a 37-yard TD pass to Wiggins around a 10-yard TD run by Healy - but the Warriors kept the Marauders off the board from the 8:09 mark of the third through the end of the contest.
Senior free safety
Jimmy Verzicco had an interception after Millersville drove inside the five-yard line midway through the third quarter, and the Warriors forced a pair of three-and-outs, produced a fumble recovery to end a promising Marauders drive and held MU out of the end zone in the final half-minute to ice the game.
Healy scored his fourth TD of the game (third rushing) with 6:05 left in the game, capping a nine play, 43-yard drive that spanned almost five minutes following an O'Brien punt that backed Millersville up to its four-yard line.
Healy broke the school record of 100-yard rushing games (now 15) held by Andre Castiglioni (14 - 1999-01), and broke the school record for career rush attempts (now 626) previously held by Rick Sterner (603 - 1988-92). He also moved into ESU's career top 10 in receptions (133).
Healy entered the week ranked second in NCAA Division II in yards from scrimmage (202.2 ypg) and sixth in rushing yards (147.2 ypg).
Healy also extended his ESU career records for rushing yards (3,729) and yards from scrimmage (5,571).
His 31 carries were a career-high. Healy has 20+ carries in four of ESU's first six games, after compiling 20+ carries in five of his first 33 career games.
Campbell had his third career game with 300 yards total offense in nine starts, including his second in six starts this fall. Wilson eclipsed the 100-yard receiving mark for the third time in five games.
Defensively, redshirt freshman safety
Justin Johnson had 15 tackles and one of the Warriors' seven sacks. Verzicco (7 tackles) and freshman cornerback
Justin Haynes had interceptions.
Redshirt junior nose guard
Marc Ranaudo had seven tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble, and redshirt senior defensive end
Ahmad McFarland, redshirt junior linebacker
Sekou Jones, redshirt junior safety
Maurice Jackson and redshirt freshman safety
Andrew Linder also had sacks.
ESU hosts Kutztown (3-3, 3-0), the PSAC East leader, next Saturday (7:05 p.m.) on Homecoming Weekend at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
