Box Score
ERIE - Redshirt senior guard
Quindell Brice scored 15 of his 19 points in the final 8:36, leading East Stroudsburg University to a 69-57 win at defending PSAC champion Mercyhurst on Sunday afternoon.
Brice, who set a career-high with 19 points in Saturday's 107-70 win at Edinboro and matched it on Sunday, helped the Warriors (6-3, 4-0) remain unbeaten in PSAC action, providing most of the late-game scoring in a strong defensive effort.
Mercyhurst (4-3, 2-2) led 51-48 at the 10-minute mark before the Warriors closed the game on a 21-6 run, holding the Lakers without a field goal for almost nine minutes in a stretch that included an 11-0 spurt.
Sophomore guard
Kitt Najee Walls hit a three-pointer to give ESU a 56-52 lead with 4:45 left, then Brice had a putback and a driving layup for a 60-52 lead with 2:19 remaining.
Senior forward
Rasheed Moore (12 points) had a bucket for his only points of the second half to keep ESU in front, 62-53, with 1:31 left and Brice closed most of the rest of the scoring at the foul line. The redshirt senior was 13-for-14 from the line, including 11-for-12 in his closing stretch where he scored 15 of ESU's final 21.
ESU led 36-32 at halftime, including a key 15-4 run midway through the period after the Lakers led 19-13 at the midpoint of the first half.
Durrell McDonald, Mercyhurst's top scorer (17.5 ppg), scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half. He had 10 of the Lakers' first 19 of the second half as they turned their four-point deficit into a three-point advantage.
ESU had advantages of 37-30 in rebounds, 20-16 in turnovers and 12-8 in steals to offset Mercyhurst's 48.1 percent shooting (25-for-52) from the field.
The Warriors had a commanding 18-point edge in scoring at the free throw line, going 23-for-33 compared to 5-for-10 for Mercyhurst, led by Brice's 13-for-14 effort. Nine of ESU's free throw attempts were the result of Mercyhurst fouling late in the contest.
Brice's 13 made free throws are ESU's most since Chris Bach had games of 14, 15 and 16 made free throws during the 2008-09 season.
Walls had nine points, a career-high seven rebounds, three assists and three steals for ESU and junior guard
Ryan Krawczeniuk and sophomore guard
Nick Giordano scored seven points each.
John Majors had 11 points to join McDonald in double figures for Mercyhurst.
The Warriors improve to 7-3 vs. Mercyhurst in the all-time series, including 6-2 under head coach
Jeff Wilson. ESU won two PSAC semifinals vs. the Lakers, 66-58 (at West Chester) in 2012 and 63-55 at home in 2014, on its way to the second and third PSAC championships in program history.
ESU has six days off before traveling back to Erie for a Saturday afternoon match-up at Gannon next weekend.
