No. 12 ESU Baseball Falls to Chestnut Hill, 10-6

EAST STROUDSBURG - No. 12-ranked East Stroudsburg University scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning, but couldn't manage any more offense against Chestnut Hill as the Griffins posted a 10-6 win in non-conference baseball on Tuesday afternoon at Mitterling Field.

ESU (30-11), which moved up two spots to No. 12 in this week's NCBWA Division II Atlantic Region poll, answered Chestnut Hill's three-run first inning, but allowed five runs in the second and couldn't catch the Griffins.

Casey Kern was the winning pitcher with 3.2 innings of scoreless, one-hit relief for Chestnut Hill (20-16). Kyle Hasforth followed with 3.0 innings without allowing a hit.

Sophomore Joe Cominsky threw 2.2 innings, redshirt sophomore left-hander Dan Woodley worked 1.2 innings and senior Joe DiGiovanni threw an inning without allowing a run for the Warriors.

Redshirt senior 1B Matt Walewski drew a bases loaded walk, sophomore OF Christian Rishel, redshirt junior 2B Jay Young and junior Billy Sablinski had RBI singles and sophomore catcher Steven Zimmerman, Jr. had a sacrifice fly for ESU in the first.

Woodley entered in relief of Cominsky in the fifth and worked out of a bases loaded jam with a fly ball and a strikeout to keep the score 8-6.

CHC added to its lead with two runs in the eighth.

Brendan Looby was 3-for-5 with two doubles, four RBI and three runs to lead an 11-hit offense for Chestnut Hill.

ESU, 13-7 in the PSAC East standings, faces Mansfield in a four-game divisional set this weekend. The Warriors are scheduled to host the front end of the series on Friday at 1 p.m.
