Box Score
PHILADELPHIA – Senior midfielder
Christian Bukowski scored in the 57th minute, and junior goalkeeper
Will Boerema made three saves as East Stroudsburg University edged out Chestnut Hill 1-0 in a non-conference game on Thursday afternoon.
The Warriors (11-3-1) earned their fifth straight victory and their fourth consecutive clean sheet. This is the first time that the men's soccer program has recorded four shutouts in a row since Oct. 24 – Nov. 3, 2007.
All of three of Boerema's saves came after Bukowski broke the deadlock. The Griffins (5-12) had three shots in the final minute and a half of regulation, but one was blocked, one hit the post and the final one with 20 seconds remaining was secured by Boerema.
Chestnut Hill also hit the crossbar midway through the second half. Boerema's other stops came in the 62nd and 88th minutes, as he earned his ninth career collegiate shutout (fifth this season).
Bukowski's goal, his second of the season and his 18th overall at ESU, came after he intercepted an attempted clearance from Griffin goalkeeper Frank Maniscalco. The Stroudsburg native upped his career collegiate points total to 54 (18 G, 18 A), which is the highest among active players.
Bukowski had a team-high four shots in the win, and the Warriors led 19-13 overall in that category.
ESU's five-game winning streak is the longest since the program won its first five contests to begin the 2010 season. Today's 1-0 final extended the team's shutout streak to 4:24.54. No opponent has scored since the first half of ESU's 2-1 overtime win over Bridgeport on Oct. 10.
The Warriors return to Eiler-Martin Stadium for a key PSAC tilt against defending conference champions Mercyhurst at 12 p.m. on Saturday. With a win, ESU can pass the Lakers (12-4, 8-2) in the conference standings and guarantee a home game in the first round of the PSAC tournament next Tuesday. Both teams clinched their spots in the playoffs last week.
The Warriors will recognize six seniors (Bukowski,
Cory Binagia,
Shaquille Stephenson,
Danny Munar,
Keelby Espinola,
James McMahon) in a pregame ceremony on Saturday as they get ready to play their final regular season home contest.
