MURFREESBORO, N.C. - Senior right-hander Tyler Eckman went 6.0 innings without allowing an earned run in a 6-2 win in the opener as East Stroudsburg University split a non-conference baseball doubleheader at Chowan on Saturday afternoon.

Eckman yielded an unearned run on two hits, struck out seven and walked four in his second start of the season for the Warriors (6-4), who dropped the second game, 7-3. The weekend series concludes Sunday afternoon.

Senior OF/LHP Ian Allen was 5-for-7 with two doubles, a home run, a walk and four RBI to lead the Warriors offensively. Allen took the loss on the mound in the nightcap after a no-decision and a win in his first two starts this spring.

Redshirt senior 2B Jay Young was 4-for-8 with a double and two runs, redshirt senior 1B Dylan Tamecki (the reigning PSAC East Athlete of the Week) was 3-for-8 with three RBI and junior catcher Steven Zimmerman, Jr. was 2-for-6 with an RBI and a walk.

GAME 1 - W 6-2

Eckman blanked Chowan (7-9) until the sixth inning and has yet to allow an earned run this season, surrendering two unearned runs (one in each start) over 12.0 innings of work with five hits allowed, 13 strikeouts and six walks.

Three Warriors had two hits each - Young in the leadoff spot, Allen in the No. 3 hole and Tamecki as the cleanup hitter - with all three contributing in a two-run first inning. Young hit a leadoff single, redshirt freshman DH Tom Nuneviller had an infield single and Allen singled down the third base line to load the bases for Tamecki, who drove a two-RBI single through the left side for a 2-0 lead and his 19th and 20th RBI of the season.

Chowan got out of the rest of the inning unscathed, and Eckman escaped a bases loaded situation with a strikeout in the bottom of the second.

The Warriors scored two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to add to their lead. Nuneviller was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on an error, and Tamecki singled and later scored on an RBI single by Zimmernan to make it 4-0.

In the sixth, Allen had a two-RBI double to score redshirt senior OF Casey Saverio (reached on leadoff error) and Young (single).

Chowan got its unearned run off Eckman in the bottom of the sixth, and scored one run against junior reliever Nick DiEva in the seventh.

GAME 2 - L 7-3

Chowan built a 3-0 lead through three innings, and used a four-run fourth to avoid the sweep.

Allen was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run, his third of the season and the 13th of his career. Young also had two hits, including a double.

Allen hit a leadoff homer in the fourth and an RBI single in the seventh. Tamecki also had an RBI single in the final frame to push his season total to 21 in the first 10 games. He is hitting .425 (17-for-40) with a .478 on-base percentage and .675 slugging percentage entering Sunday.
