UPDATE: DH at Mansfield postponed to Monday

EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior Tyler Eckman fired a six-hitter for his first career shutout in a 4-0 win in the opener, and redshirt senior Ben Stine threw six shutout innings before freshman Connor Johnson came on for the save in a 3-2 victory in the nightcap as East Stroudsburg University swept Mansfield in a PSAC East baseball doubleheader to remain in the hunt for a PSAC Tournament bid on the final weekend of the regular season.

Eckman improved to 7-0 in 10 starts, lowered his ERA to 2.13, struck out seven and walked two in his final start at Mitterling Field.

Stine allowed just two hits through six innings, struck out nine and didn't issue a walk before Mansfield threatened with three straight hits in the sixth. Johnson allowed an RBI single but got the final two outs with the tying run on second base to secure his fourth save of the year.

ESU (24-19-1, 13-12-1) pulls within a half-game of Millersville (31-16, 14-12) for the fourth and final playoff spot in the PSAC East, after the Marauders dropped a pair at Shippensburg on Saturday.

ESU would earn its sixth PSAC Tournament appearance in the last eight years with two wins and a Millersville loss on Sunday, or a win and two Millersville losses. ESU travels to Mansfield and Millersville hosts Shippensburg on the final day of the regular season.

Both teams had 12 hits in the doubleheader, but ESU drew 10 walks and struck out just one time, while Warriors pitchers struck out 17 and walked only two.

Redshirt sophomore PJ Van Orman was 3-for-5 with a double, walk and two runs to pace the Warriors offensively.

Redshirt freshman OF Tom Nuneviller (2-for-3, walk, RBI, run) and redshirt senior 1B Dylan Tamecki (2-for-6) both had a pair of hits.

Senior OF Ian Allen drew two walks, breaking ESU's career record (107) which he shared with former teammate Drew Hercik (105 - 2013-16) entering the weekend. Allen also had one stolen base, giving him 32 on the season and 99 in his career.

Eight Warriors had hits overall. There were just five extra-base hits on the day, all doubles - four by ESU and one by Mansfield.

ESU recognized nine seniors prior to the game along with Brayden Walsh, who joined the Warriors through Team IMPACT prior to the 2014 season. Seniors LHP/OF Ian Allen, RHP Ben Bortz, RHP/INF Conner Crookham, RHP Tyler Eckman, INF Billy Sablinski, OF Casey Saverio, RHP Ben Stine, 1B Dylan Tamecki and 2B Jay Young all helped the Warriors to the NCAA Division II Tournament and a school-record 38 wins in 2016, and seven seniors were contributors on the PSAC runner-up team in 2015.

GAME 1 - W 4-0

Eckman stranded runners in scoring position in the first, third and seventh innings to throw his first career shutout, and his fifth career complete game. He entered the weekend tied for third in the PSAC in wins (6) and third in ERA (2.40), and the Warriors have won nine of his 10 starts.

After Eckman got out of the first, the offense got him two runs in the first and another in the third for a 3-0 lead - which they extended to 4-0 in the sixth.

In the first, Allen drew a one-out walk, stole second and scored on an RBI single by junior C Steven Zimmerman, Jr. He moved to third on a ground ball and scored on a wild pitch with two outs for a 2-0 edge.

Freshman SS Joey Paolini had an RBI double in the second after Van Orman had the first of his three hits, freshman OF Evan Steele reached on a fielders choice, moved to second on a single by redshirt senior OF Casey Saverio and scored on Paolini's two-bagger.

ESU used two hits and two walks to score in the sixth. Van Orman had another leadoff single, Nuneviller singled and redshirt senior 2B Jay Young and Allen drew a pair of two-out walks to force in a run.

Eckman pitched around a pair of singles in the seventh to lock down the shutout.

Van Orman was 2-for-3, Zimmerman was 1-for-3 with a walk, Saverio was 1-for-2 with a walk and Allen walked twice for the Warriors.

Luke Hils threw a complete game (6.0 IP, 4 runs, 7 hits, 1 strikeout, 6 walks) for Mansfield and fell to 3-8 on the season.

GAME 2 - W 3-2

Stine was nearly unhittable for six innings. He retired the first 10 batters he faced, including striking out the side in the third, before a single and an error put runners on second and third in the fourth. Stine got a popup and a strikeout to end the frame, then got out of another jam (error, single) with a strikeout in the fifth and retired the side in order in the sixth.

ESU's offense struck for two runs in the second as the first five batters reached - a single by Tamecki, a double by Van Orman (with Tamecki thrown out on the play) and three straight walks by junior 3B Laine Renaud, Nuneviller and Saverio to force in a run. Paolini lifted a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded for the second run and a 2-0 lead.

The Warriors got their third run in the fourth - Van Orman walked, senior 3B Billy Sablinski had a pinch-hit single and Nuneviller hit an RBI single to score Van Orman.

In the Mansfield seventh, Stine struck out the leadoff man for his ninth of the game before three straight hits - a single by Brady Mengel, a double by Eric Harms and an RBI single by Scott Rockwell - sent the Warriors to the bullpen for the freshman Johnson.

Colby Schearer had an RBI single to make it 3-2 with runners on first and second and one out, but Johnson struck out leadoff hitter Taylor Hillson and got Ryan Paige to foul out to Zimmerman to end it.

Johnson's four saves are the second-most by a freshman in program history. He made his 17th appearance of the season (41.1 innings), including his 12th in relief.

Tamecki was 2-for-3, and Van Orman was 1-for-2 with a walk and a double to account for four of ESU's nine baserunners against Evan McAndrew (6.0 IP, 3 runs, 5 hits, 4 walks).
