EAST STROUDSBURG - Former East Stroudsburg University men's basketball standout Duane Johnson competed in The Basketball Tournament, a national 64-team five-on-five tournament with a two million dollar prize for the champion, this weekend in Philadelphia.

Johnson (Landsdowne, Pa./Penn Wood), playing for Sideline Cancer for the second straight year, had a big game in an upset win in the first round, before falling in the second round in the Northeast Regional contested in Philadelphia.

Johnson had 25 points and 12 rebounds as the No. 12 seed advanced with a 100-87 win over No. 5 seed Zoo Crew, comprised primarily of former University of Pittsburgh standouts, on Saturday. He shot 9-for-11 from the field, 7-for-9 at the foul line and had two assists, a steal and a block in 32 minutes.

He had 12 points and seven rebounds in an 82-75 loss to No. 4 seed Team FOE, comprised of 10 former Division I players, including three from the University of Kansas and coached by NBA player Markieff Morris, on Sunday.

Johnson has re-signed with Black Star Mersch, in Luxembourg's second division, for a second year for the upcoming 2017-18 season.

Johnson, entering his fourth professional season, averaged 26.1 points per game in 16 games in an injury-shortened season last winter.

During the 2015-16 season, he was named to the Basketball Ireland Premier League first team after leading the league in scoring and rebounding for DCU Saints, based in Dublin. He posted 26.2 points per game, 18.7 rebounds per game, 3.9 assists (12th in the league), 2.6 steals (5th) and 3.1 blocks (2nd) across 12 contests.

Johnson played for the Corio Bay Stingrays in Australia in his first professional season in 2013-14. He helped the team to a 22-2 regular season record and a spot in the three-game championship series. In 27 games, he averaged 20.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.3 blocks per game while posting 13 double-doubles.

In his four years at ESU (2010-13), Johnson was the third three-time All-PSAC East selection in program history, joining Jonathan Roberts and Lonnie White. Rasheed Moore became ESU's first four-time All-PSAC East selection in 2017.

Johnson was part of four straight PSAC Final Four teams and three NCAA Division II Tournament teams, helping the Warriors reach the NCAA Tournament in 2010, 2012 and 2013.

He helped lead ESU to the 2012 PSAC championship, when he was named to the All-PSAC East first team.

Johnson finished his career ranked seventh at ESU in career points (1,347), ninth in rebounds (608), fourth in steals (148), eighth in blocks (90) and second in free throws made (369). He and Roberts are the only two players in school history to rank in the top 10 in both steals and blocks. He completed his career with 3,267 career minutes, the most by an ESU player since at least 1990.

As a junior, he was first team All-PSAC East and helped the Warriors to the second PSAC championship in school history. He averaged 12.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, ranking third on the Warriors in scoring and second in rebounding, assists, steals and blocked shots. He had 19 points, four rebounds, two assists, four steals and a block in a 90-85 win at West Chester in the PSAC championship game, and averaged big all-around numbers (13.3 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 1.7 assists, 1.7 steals, 1.3 blocks) in the three-game run to the PSAC title.

During his senior year, Johnson was an All-PSAC East second team pick while helping ESU to its fourth straight PSAC Final Four and third NCAA Tournament in his career. He was second on the Warriors with 14.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, and ranked in the top 20 in the PSAC in four categories - scoring, rebounding, steals and blocks.
