EAST STROUDSBURG – Senior back
James McMahon, sophomore forward
Irvin Zuzic and freshman forward
Michael Tolley all scored in the second half, as East Stroudsburg University picked up a second-straight PSAC victory with a 3-1 triumph over Slippery Rock on Saturday.
The Warriors (5-2-1, 3-2 PSAC) outshot the Rock (1-5-3, 0-2-2 PSAC) by a 10-3 margin after the intermission to earn their first win in the series since 2011. Junior
Eddy Enowbi added an assist on McMahon's strike for ESU.
Little separated the teams in the opening 45 minutes, with each managing one shot on goal while shots overall were 6-4 in favor of the Warriors.
McMahon and Zuzic struck less than 10 minutes apart early in the second half. Enowbi set up McMahon for his third goal in as many games in the 51st minute, and Zuzic followed with an unassisted strike just over eight minutes later. McMahon has scored in three straight contests after registering two goals in his first 54 games at ESU, while Zuzic recorded his seventh goal as a Warrior (second this season).
After the Rock broke the shutout on a strike by Tyler McCarthy in the 80th minute, Tolley's first collegiate goal restored ESU's two-goal lead with 2:44 remaining in regulation.
Slippery Rock had been 4-0-1 in the past five meetings between the two schools. The Warriors last victory prior to this afternoon was a 2-1 road triumph in 2011; this is their first home win over the Rock since 2007.
ESU finished with a 16-7 advantage in shots, including an 8-2 margin in shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper
Will Boerema only needed to make one save to earn his 17th career collegiate victory.
The Warriors have outshot their opponents by a combined 45-18 margin in their past two PSAC victories. They will look to make it three league wins in a row on Wednesday, when Lock Haven heads to Eiler-Martin Stadium for a matchup scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
