EAST STROUDSBURG – Sophomore forward Lata Petros netted his first collegiate goal late in the first half, helping East Stroudsburg University earn a 1-1 draw against Caldwell in non-conference men's soccer at Eiler-Martin Stadium on Thursday night.

The Warriors (1-0-1) held a 24-7 advantage in shots overall, but a 63rd minute equalizer from Luca Cacciottolo was enough to prevent the home side from beginning the season with consecutive victories.

Senior back James McMahon registered his second assist in as many games for ESU. He sent a ball in from the right side of the field to Petros, and the sophomore fired a low shot into the left-hand corner of the goal to open up the scoring in the 41st minute.

Petros ended the night with six shots, three of which were on goal, while junior midfielder Brandon Levano added a team-high seven shots.

The one save of the contest for junior goalkeeper Will Boerema was a memorable one, as he made a diving stop to his right to deny Caldwell's Sam Odell on a free kick with less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half.

The Warriors had seven of the eight shots in the two overtime periods, though only one of them landed on target. Nils Svere finished with six saves for the Cougars (1-1-1).

This was the eighth-straight season that the two teams have squared off against each other, with Caldwell holding a 5-2-1 edge during that span.

ESU is back in action next Tuesday, as the Warriors open up PSAC play with a 4:00 p.m. road matchup at West Chester.
