Box Score

SHIPPENSBURG - Shippensburg senior guard Justin McCarthur was 9-for-9 from the three-point line to set a PSAC record and scored 36 points, leading the No. 23-ranked Raiders to an 89-64 win over East Stroudsburg University in PSAC East men's basketball on Wednesday night at Heiges Field House.

McCarthur scored 25 of his 36 points and made six of his nine three's in the second half to break the PSAC record for three-point makes without a miss. Lock Haven's Justin Wilson (vs. ESU in 2006-07) and Clarion's Justin Collins (vs. IUP in 2003-04) were both 8-for-8 in the conference record book.

Senior forward Dustin Sleva, a returning NABC first team All-America and the PSAC East Athlete of the Year, had 20 points and 10 rebounds for his 49th career double-double for Shippensburg (16-3, 12-2), which won its eighth straight game since ESU's 90-79 win over the Raiders on January 3 at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Ship takes a two-game lead in the loss column in the PSAC East standings, followed by West Chester (16-4, 12-4), Kutztown (15-4, 11-4) and ESU (14-5, 11-4). WCU beat Millersville 107-63 and Kutztown rallied at Bloomsburg, 76-71, on Wednesday night.

Redshirt senior forward Steve Harris scored 12 of his 19 points in the first half, and redshirt sophomore Kobi Nwandu scored all 14 of his points in the second half, to lead the Warriors.

Harris, the PSAC leader in field goal percentage (65.6) entering the night, was 7-for-10 to improve to 29-for-36 in the last four games.

John Castello had 10 points and seven rebounds and Antonio Kellem had 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals for Shippensburg. Point guard Clay Conner had five points, seven assists and three turnovers after recording 14 points but just two assists and five turnovers in ESU's win four weeks ago.

Ship led 18-6 in the first 4:30 and opened a 28-10 advantage at the 10-minute mark of the first half. The lead was 41-21 before ESU scored the final six points of the first half to close within 41-27 at the break.

McCarthur hit his fourth three of the game to start the second half, and Harris answered with a three-point play for ESU, before Ship scored 10 straight - capped by a McCarthur three - to lead 54-30 with 16 minutes remaining.

McCarthur hit three more three's in the next five minutes to go 8-for-8, and hit his final triple with just over seven minutes left to set the conference record at 9-for-9.

ESU's Andy Heimbach is one of two PSAC players to go 7-for-7 in a game (2007-08 vs. Queens), along with the two at 8-for-8 and now McCarthur at 9-for-9.

McCarthur was 11-for-12 from the field overall and 5-for-5 at the foul line. Ship shot 57.1 percent (32-for-56) overall and the same mark (16-for-28) from long distance to match the most three's made against ESU under 16th-year head coach Jeff Wilson, who moved into the top 10 in PSAC history in career wins (285) last Saturday. WV State made 16 three's in an 89-79 win over ESU in the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2010.

Ship entered as the PSAC leader in three's per game (11.0) and three-point percentage (39.1).

Senior forward Ralik Wise and redshirt junior forward Josh Williams added nine points for ESU, which shot 43.9 percent (25-for-57) overall and 5-for-20 from three.

ESU, the DII leader in turnovers forced (23.0) and steals (12.9) and second in turnover margin (+8.6), was 21-21 in the turnover department and had 10 steals. The Warriors had a 20-12 turnover advantage in the 11-point win at Koehler Fieldhouse on Jan. 3.

ESU travels to Mansfield (6-13, 5-11) on Saturday. The Mounties have dropped two straight, including 75-64 at Lock Haven on Wednesday night, after two straight wins. That stretch was preceded by eight straight setbacks, including 88-63 at ESU on Dec. 30.
