EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University dropped only three games in doubles, and picked up five straight-set victories in singles to earn a 6-1 victory over Caldwell at East Stroudsburg South HS on Friday.
The Warriors (1-2) earned their first dual win of the fall, and they avenged a pair of 5-4 defeats over the last two seasons to the Cougars (0-10).
Sophomore
Amanda Jackson did not drop a game all afternoon, as she teamed with freshman
Charity McLeod for a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles before picking up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles.
Senior
Lauren Morrissey added a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 5 singles, and she was paired with sophomore
Quinn McCluskey for a 6-1 triumph at the No. 2 doubles position.
ESU's other doubles win came from juniors
Marina Zardet and
Aubrianna Stetina, who won 6-2 at the No. 1 spot. Zardet added a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the top singles position. She is now 4-3 through her first seven singles matches on the year.
Other singles wins were earned by McCluskey (6-0, 6-3) at No. 3 and McLeod (6-2, 6-3) at No. 6.
The match, originally scheduled for Sept. 7, was postponed three times due to inclement weather before the teams were finally able to make it to the courts this afternoon.
The Warriors have one more dual match to conclude the fall portion of their schedule, as they travel to St. Thomas Aquinas for a 3 p.m. contest on Tuesday, Oct. 23.
