Box Score
INDIANA, Pa. – Senior
Tina Predojevic became the sixth Warrior in program history to reach 2,000 assists in her collegiate career, highlighting a 3-0 victory for East Stroudsburg University at IUP on Saturday. Set scores were 25-23, 27-25, 25-15.
The Warriors (19-6, 9-4) now have a three-game lead over West Chester and Millersville for first place in the PSAC Southeast division standings. They recorded their first victory over the Crimson Hawks (7-19, 3-10) since 1981.
Predojevic had 33 assists in today's win, giving her 2,013 all-time at ESU. She also supplied eight digs and a pair of aces. Predojevic entered the weekend ranked third in the PSAC and 17th nationally in aces; she now has 42 overall on the year.
Junior
Sarah Smith (13 kills, 11 digs) and freshman
Andrea Coyle (13 kills, 10 digs) each added double-doubles in the win. Smith's double-double was her 10th in the last 12 matches; her 13 kills were backed by a .265 attack percentage. Coyle, meanwhile, reached double figures in kills for a sixth time in her debut season.
Both of Predojevic's aces came in the beginning of the match, as she helped the visitors race out to an 8-0 lead in the opening set. The Crimson Hawks, though, recovered to even up the frame at 13-13, and they would ultimately hold a late 22-20 advantage.
ESU won three of the next four points to tie the set at 23-23, and Coyle then supplied a kill and a service ace to secure an early lead for the Warriors.
The second set went down to the wire as well. Trailing 24-20, IUP saved four-consecutive set points to level the score at 24-24. The teams traded the next two points before a kill by freshman
Kailyn Pyle and an IUP ball handling error doubled ESU's set advantage.
The Warriors won six of the first nine points in the third set and gradually increased their advantage the rest of the way.
Pyle added a team-high five blocks in the win, while freshman
Emily Meredith led all players with 15 digs. The Crimson Hawks were limited to a .054 attack percentage across the three sets.
ESU, which long ago clinched a second-straight winning season under head coach
Kevin Rodgers, is looking for its first PSAC tournament appearance since 2008.
The Warriors have five conferences matchups remaining in the regular season, beginning with a 7 p.m. home tilt against California next Friday.
Notes:
ESU had dropped 17-straight meetings against IUP prior to this afternoon's victory, with the Warriors winning just two sets during that span.
ESU is now 7-2 against teams which qualified for the Division II national tournament in 2017.
