EAST STROUDSBURG –
Tina Predojevic's Senior Night was one that nobody on East Stroudsburg University's roster will forget anytime soon.
Junior
Sarah Smith delivered her 1,000th career kill, Predojevic supplied a career-high 55 assists, and freshman
Andrea Coyle added 21 kills to help the Warriors survive against Kutztown in a 3-2 thriller on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-23, 18-25, 23-25, 22-25, 17-15, as ESU clinched its first PSAC tournament appearance since 2008.
Smith had 19 kills overall, the last of which sealed the match in ESU's first five-set contest at home this season. The Warriors (20-8, 10-6 PSAC) completed a season sweep of the Golden Bears (10-16, 3-13 PSAC), and they maintained their one-game edge over Millersville in the Southeast division standings.
After dropping the third and fourth sets, ESU fell behind 12-8 in the later stages of the fifth. Coyle had three kills during a 5-0 run for the home side on the serve of junior
Becca Huddleston which put them back in front.
Kutztown, though, won the next two points to set up a match point. That was saved via a service error, and after the teams traded the next two points kills by redshirt sophomore
Trea-sure Ketter and Smith finished off the contest.
Smith becomes the seventh player in team history to reach 1,000 kills, with stats available dating back to the 1990 season. She added 19 digs for her 17 double-double of the season; her 19 kills were backed by a .262 attack percentage.
Ketter added a massive performance at the net, assisting on all 11 of ESU's blocks on the evening. Her 11 blocks were a new career-high, and they were the most by a Warrior player since at least 2002.
Predojevic's 55 assists surpassed her previous season and career-best of 52 which was set in a five-set win at Edinboro in September. She added four of the Warriors' nine aces, keeping her second in the PSAC this season at 0.48 aces per set.
Other statistical standouts for ESU included freshman
Jasmine Mooney (11 kills), freshman
Emily Meredith (18 digs) and Huddleston (16 digs). Coyle's 21 kills were five above her previous season-best total. She chipped in 10 digs as well for her third double-double in the last four matches.
The victory halted ESU's first losing streak of the season. The Warriors now hit the road for their final two contests of the regular season. They travel to West Chester for a 7 p.m. tilt on Friday before playing at Millersville at 1 p.m. the following afternoon.
