ESU Falls 3-1 at West Chester; PSAC Southeast Division to be Decided Saturday at Millersville

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Grace Whitney totaled 13 kills with a .522 attack percentage, leading four West Chester players in double figures during a 3-1 victory over East Stroudsburg University on Friday night. Set scores were 25-19, 23-25, 25-15, 25-23.

The defeat for the Warriors (20-9, 10-7), paired with a 3-0 win for Millersville (15-11, 10-7) over Kutztown, sets up a deciding match for the PSAC Southeast division title between the two sides tomorrow afternoon. The contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Millersville; both teams have already secured a spot in the upcoming PSAC tournament.

Junior Sarah Smith (10 kills, 19 digs) and freshman Andrea Coyle (11 kills, 10 digs) each recorded double-doubles for ESU. Smith has accomplished the feat in six of the last seven matches, while Coyle has done so in 4 of 5 contests.

West Chester (19-10, 8-9) held the visitors to a .105 hitting percentage overall, including a -.031 rate in the opening set, to seal a split of the season series after a 3-0 Warrior win at Koehler Fieldhouse on Oct. 13.

Trailing 20-18 late in the second set, two kills by redshirt sophomore Trea-sure Ketter highlighted a 7-3 run by ESU which evened up the match at 1-1. The Warriors then held an 8-6 lead in the early stages of the third before the Golden Rams won 11 out of 13 points to take control of the frame.

With the fourth set tied 14-14, West Chester used a 5-0 run to take a lead that would not be relinquished the rest of the way.

Ketter and junior Jasmine Williams led ESU at the net with five blocks apiece, while freshmen Emily Meredith and Hailey Jones each supplied two aces. Williams is up to 121 blocks on the year, putting her six away from matching a single-season program record which was established in 2008. Her 281 career blocks are already the third most in team history.

ESU, already assured of its first PSAC tournament berth in 10 years, now looks to clinch the Southeast division title with Saturday's match at Millersville. The Warriors will also be trying to avenge a 3-0 home defeat to the Marauders during the team's first meeting on Oct. 12.
